    C1 gold-cad & black oxide plated parts?

    Hi all,

I didn't see any posts on this so here goes:

In the 58-60 judging guide I believe it says that the fuel line bracket bolts & brake line bracket bolts are supposed to be CAD plated. My bolts appear to me to have been black oxide. I can say the same about the bolts that go through the frame for the steering box bracket on my car. What is the opinion here? I know I can just do it and lose the points, but I'm interested in if people have seen the same thing...

Also, there's a guy on ebay (motorcitysupercars) that sells a brake bolt, clip and bracket set with black oxide bolts and gold-cad clips. So this guy at least thinks the bolts were black oxide. What do you think about the clips having been gold cad? I have what I believe are original integrated washer nuts for the softtop and they were gold cad. Another person suggested to me that part of the decklid locking assembly was gold cad as well. So it seems to me there is some possibility of a very few gold-cad plated parts on the C1 corvette, even though I have heard many times from posters and judges that there were no gold cad items on the C1.

There is no gold cad part on a 53 to 57 that I know or think of!

Ian, I'm no expert on plating metals, but in the vintage car hobby, the metal finish depicted in the attached photo is commonly called ...yellow dichromate finish. Some call it "yellow cad", or "yellow cadmium".
I think that's the finish I'm seeing. Perhaps the "gold cad" lingo is throwing some.
      Hope this helps, Ridge.
Good carburetion is fuelish hot air . . .

The only cad plated item on my car I have found Ian is the wiper motor and maybe the petrol cap ? I have the original 50 year old fuel clips but are rusty and painted as well as the bolts. Sorry no help ! Stewy

Thanks very much for that info Richard. That coincides with info I got from another source in NCRS. Just to clarify, the integrated nut-washers I am talking about being yellow dichromate are the ones that screw onto the underside of the rear decklid softtop latches...

Anyone have any experience with the fuel and brake line and steering box bracket bolts being black oxide?

Fuel & brake lines are just raw steel, steering bolts are black oxide

                Hi Roy,

Sorry I meant fuel and brake line bracket bolts & brake block bolts that go along the edges of the frame...
