    Tires- judging question

Ive got a 72 coupe that has Firestone wide ovals w/ redlines and has the Super-r-belt , as there like new I don't think I would like to replaced with the goodyear correct tires , I know there not totally correct for my 72 car. from judging stand point whats the normal deduct on these tires? as for my spare I will plan on just matching the tires on car.

    Ed -

See page 21 of the Corvette Judging Reference Manual for the explanation of standard deductions for tires.

John,I Looked at the chart I could'nt decide if its a 20 or 30 percent, because of the tread design and width is different, and red walls , other wise firestone wide ovals were used as factory tires.

I think it's 30% for those tires, possibly up to 60%, as redlines weren't even a 72 option. The only thing "correct" is that they are Firestone Wide Ovals of the correct size. Sidewall color, tread width and pattern, etc are not correct. These get a 30% deduction on a 1969 car when red was an option, so I can't imagine deducting less on a 1972. They're closer to being a "bias ply service replacement", i.e. 60%
