    Camshaft Identification

I need help in identifying an old Camshaft that I think I took out of my 57 Corvette. The numbers on it are 37360 or 3736098 as the last two digits are very hard to identify. If it came out of my car it would have been about 38 years ago and be for a 250 HP Fuel injected engine. I would like to restore the engine back to original and would use this cam if it is correct.
    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Camshaft Identification

    Dave -

That's the "097" Duntov solid-lifter cam (3736098 casting number); it was used only in the 270hp 2x4 and 283hp fuel injection engines. The 250hp fuel injection engine used the same hydraulic-lifter cam as the base 1x4 220hp engine.

      John,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I guess I saved the wrong Camshaft from my other 283 HP engine. Will have to look at buying a replacement for the present 250 HP car.

      Thanks again

The '57 to '66 base engine camshaft is obsolete and was replaced by the 3896929 beginning in '67, and this is the replacement, back to '57, for previous base engines and optional engines that used the base engine camshaft.

An exact replacement is the Sealed Power CS274. You can buy it at NAPA for about 55 bucks.

There was a recent thread on this same subject.

          Duke,

Thank you for the Camshaft information. I will keep in my files for future use when I get around to rebuilding the 250 HP motor.

          Thanks again
