    1972 speaker removal

    Hi Everyone,

I'm helping a friend install the two dash speakers in his '72 and had no problems with the R.H speaker, but we are having some trouble removing the driver's side dash, etc. to get at the speaker to re & re. We have all the visible screws removed from the driver's dash but it doesn't want to let go. Any and all help greatly appreciated as to how to get to this speaker. Thank you for your help.

    Kurt,

Are you removing the upper dash pad assembly or the front facing assemblies?

It is a whole lot easier to remove the L/R pillar post inside moldings and lift the upper assembly out of the car. You do need to remove the wiper control bezel to get at a screw and remove the passenger side front dash assembly also.

I have done this a good number of times and the process works nicely.

If you have a ny questions, just give me a call - I can tell you the directions better than I can write them.

It's not that hard. Remove the sill plates, kick plates, visors, all three trim pieces around windshield, lower the steering column,E-brake console, shift plate, center console, gauge cluster,A/C center vents or cover, and the right hand dash. Their is one screw on a bracket on the bottom of the dash. That should loosen it up and is how I would do it.May be an over kill but you won't break anything if you take your time and it will all be out for a little R&R.

Thanks guys, I was removing the driver's dash pad (around speedo/tach) and then was going from there. I already have the pass. side dash and center gauge cluster removed so it shouldn't be too much trouble to complete now with the aid of your suggestions.

          Thank you.

            Kurt,

Taking that assembly out is overkill.
            You don't need to.

I have removed the upper dash probably 20 times from various cars and have never taken that assembly out to do it.

              Hello Bill,

We removed both the L/R pillar post trim pieces and lifted the upper dash assembly with ease. We were able to raise the dash pad high enough have that RH speaker changed out in a flash.

              THANK YOU for the advise.
