63 corvette convert from black to red interior

I own a 1963 Sebring Silver Corvette Roadster. The original interior color was red. When I bought the car the previous owner had started a conversation to black including painting the entire dash area. I now want to take it back to the original red. I have a purchased a complete interior kit (Seat covers, Carpet, deluxe door panels etc. I need to get the previously painted red dash pads and molded centre dash cover and all the mouldings back to red. I was hoping not to purchase these new but to remove the black paint and repaint the entire dash area red.

    Questions:
    1. Any there any general comments on this big change?
    2. What is the NCRS standard for the pieces that bend around to the door jam that are part of the dash?
    3. Do these get painted red also or should they be body color.
    4. Should they be riveted or? Should the rivets be painted and if so, what color?
    5. What is the standard RED dash color to use

Any help or advice to get this dash back from black to red would be greatly appreciated

Hey, Lon, how goes it? In general, the dash pad 'overhang' items in the door jam were painted where the color of the dash pad contrasted with the car's exerior color. The concept was one of cosmetics...make the door jam area appear to be one, uniform, color when the door was opened for occupant entry.

I believe your copy of the '63-64 AIM provides advice on which color combinations (exterior + interior dash) were painted vs. which were left natural...

Does ANYONE else agree with this for 63 and at least most of 64?

        Michael and Lon,
Having nothing else on which to base a decision regarding the paint on the dash tabs, I follow what is in the TIM&JG.
        Best regards,

Charlie, Hold the phone on the dash tab info. You need more correct info. Michael Hanson knows the right answer for you.
Now I will just check back later to see if it appears. So far you don't have the correct info. I am just a 63 novice so I will butt out as in learning stages. JD

            Lon,
On the black painted dash. Try some laquer thinner on a clean soft cloth. Some paints will come right off. For the red dye, try Al knoch, LIC and whovever sells Corvette interiors. I'm sure others will know suppliers.
good luck with the project, great color combo.
            John

Lon... below is the link to a discussion in the archives (one of MANY on this exact subject) that may help. A lot of owners of original unrestored 63-64 cars posted and all describe gloss body color painted dash tabs and rivets.

For your own search, enter dash tabs in the search box at the top of each page. There's a lot of information on the dash tab/rivet subject.
              Good luck on your project.
