There were different bulbs used for 72 vs other years, The JG has the details on them, and I don't remember them offhand, but the '72 is a one year only item. The judging guides have real good descriptions of the various years, and the only issue is the pictures on the ads do not have enough detail to see the important details.

Good memory, Clup! In '72 the Guide T3 emboss was moved to the bottom center of the lamp's globe. After that, the lamps changed to power beams...

Went to a major swap meet over the weekend and saw two T-3s that the vendor said worked for $5 each! They were clear too and no fogging or black areas.

Too bad my car takes the Power Beams!!

I bought four used T-3 bulbs, two hi beam and two low beam for $85 on eBay from this guy below. When I got them they looked like they were still new. They are not repops. A year later they are still working fine. FYI, PT

The E-Bay ad says not tested and won't test.
Run Rurrrrrrr Run. I will take them off my 72 and sell them for half that price.

                  Jerome and all:
What this vendor is saying is that he is perfectly happy to sell you bulbs that may not (don't) work and then they become your problem. Tell any vendor who won't let you test bulbs- even at a swap meet- "Thanks but no thanks". There was a time when you could buy these bulbs for $1 apiece so you could take a chance but now they are far too expensive. BTW- very late '71 and '72 used these bulbs. '73 went to Power Beams.

The re-production lamps are worth the point deduct and you can actually see at night. JMHO.

The problem is their are no reproductions of 72 T3's or 73-82 Power Beams so if you need them for judging you need to buy them used from a vendor who has them. Very few bulbs show up anymore at Carlisle and like Jeff said only a few sell them and test them so you can see what you are buying. To buy bulbs for the price this guy wants not tested is like throwing 100 dollar bills off a bridge. I bought a lot of 150 NOS and used-72T-3's years ago and more than half burned out when I lit them up. I will admit that my four wheel hand truck went over a bump and four or five cases of bulbs hit the ground so this may have damaged them.

I've been buying used, and NOS T-3 bulbs at swap meets for well over 30 years. Now being retired, I attend a dozen or so swap meets per year, and carry two jump leads with alligator clips, and a nine volt transister battery for testing. In over thirty years, I've never had a vendor refuse my testing (before a serious purchase). I agree with Jeff, if the vendor/seller refuses to test,.......run.
I've had better luck than those who mention quick "burn-out"s. Since I only drive my vintage cars 1,500 to 2,500 miles per year, I've never had a NOS T-3 burn-out, and possibly only have had one or two vintage used bulbs quit working, and that's after quite a few cars.
Repos are not a consideration in this instance, so no comment there.
I think the best advice here,... is to contact Jeff.
                        Good luck, Ridge

I'm sure they are rare but the late 55 Corvette is a one only (all glass) seal beam bulb that's not even listed in the JM , it only list the (black) tin backs. They can bring $300.00 each and is rarely ever seen for sale as Corvette but 55 Chevy guys know it (same bulb= late) . Some day in the far far future the JM might list them and I wonder what the price will be then

You are indeed right about these '55 bulbs being rare. In all the years I have been buying and selling bulbs I have only had one of these to sell and that was this year at Carlisle. It's not important how much it sold for but it wasn't cheap and was sold on the first day.

Some one must have read one of my post, It's funny over the years when some judges looked at my 55 bulbs and even when I once had it judged I was told there wrong do to the JM and lost points. That's why I say go ahead and change parts to meet the JM BUT keep the original parts you KNOW are right for the later NEW JM's.
And if you find anymore keep them, it's like money in the bank when the JM catches up.
