    C1 Fuel Pump

A question for application of early or late ... a fuel pump for a 1958 with an engine casting date of late December 1957. I checked the judging guide and it states 4445 with forward fuel outlet as early and 4656 with rear fuel pipe outlet as late through 1960. The aim lists part # 5594656 and it is drawn with the rear fuel outlet. Any input would be appreciated.

      Roy.

Thanks for the reply. I'll print and include your info in my
files. The engine I have has no fuel pump and I'm looking to buy one, but need to know which one is correct.

      Thanks again,

      David

Both are correct depending on whether the car is early or late with respect to this running change (fuel pump 4445 -> 4656). You should see the call out change in your copy of the AIM along with an AIM date for the change. Noland Adams' book says the change was effective 11/18/57.

BUT, we know running changes were loosely implemented depending on how much of the prior inventory was on-hand in-plant. So, use that date as an 'approximation' of when the earliest 4656 pumps might have been seen...

Typically, production was mix-mode until all of the prior part that was in inventory was used up!

Thanks for the approximate date, Jack! Just for my own clarification, where in the AIM does it show the callout change and date. I am looking at section 6, sheet 3.00 and don't see this referenced. Is it on a different page?

          Thanks again,

          David

Technical Service Bulletin DR #321 dated October 29, 1957 calls out that a squeaky noise "similar to a rocker arm ball speak" may be coming from the fuel pump. The fix is enlarging the forward vent hole to 1/8".

It then lists Service package #5821638 for Corvette; #5594445 as "Old" for the Corvette, and #5594663 as "New" for the Corvette.

Assembly plants a advised to "rework" all pumps until the new ones arrive.
You can identify 4445 pumps that have been reworked by GREEN PAINT
            on the last 4 digits.

Thanks, Loren. Very interesting how things worked at the assembly plant.
