    63 Corvette Roadster Interior Color

I own a 1963 Sebring Silver Corvette Roadster. The original interior color was red. When I bought the car the previous owner had started a conversation to black including painting the entire dash area. I now want to take it back to the original red. I have a purchased a complete interior kit (Seat covers, Carpet, deluxe door panels etc. I need to get the previously painted red dash pads and molded centre dash cover and all the mouldings back to red. I was hoping not to purchase these new but to remove the black paint and repaint the entire dash area red.

    Questions:
    1. Any there any general comments on this big change?
    2. What is the NCRS standard for the pieces that bend around to the door jam that are part of the dash?
    3. Do these get painted red also or should they be body color.
    4. Should they be riveted or? Should the rivets be painted and if so, what color?
    5. What is the standard RED dash color to use

Any help or advice to get this dash back from black to red would be greatly appreciated

Lon, for interior color on my '64 I have used red interior dye (paint?) purchased from Al Knoch. It can be mixed and sprayed with a gun or airbrush.

I began my project using rattle can interior dye to paint the center console. A couple of years later I wanted to do the dash pads and center stack so I purhcased a couple of rattle cans in the same color by the same vendor but the shade was different. I then went to Al for dye/paint and did everthing.

My task was not a change of color.
    Best regards,

Lon, on the dash pads, it's possible to remove paint/dye using brake fluid. This process USUALLY doesn't damage the original dye. I've used this process several times in the past and the pads come out looking brand new. (as long as the original is decent)

      1. Most 63-64 interior paint/dye is too red. The original color was slightly orange. If you can get the black paint off of the dash pads, you will see the correct original color.

      2. The NCRS JG is a little confusing on the dash end tabs for 63-64. I think the manual states that the tabs are to be interior color. That's not always the case.

      3. The dash end tabs for 63 and 64 are always painted gloss body color no matter what the interior color is.

      4. The dash end tabs are riveted to the door jamb. The rivets are also painted gloss body color at the same time the tabs are painted.

      5. I don't have any info for a source on the dash panel paint. It was lacquer. Hopefully, someone here can provide info on the mixing formula.
