    C2 Windshield install

I have read in the archives that several people have had good luck using 3M Windo-Weld Urethane. If I understood the posts correctly, to get the best seal, the urethane is placed in the groove of the rubber seal before it is fitted on the glass. I have two concerns: mess and working time. As a test run, I put the rubber on the glass without any urethane. The way I had to manipulate the rubber to get it on the glass, with urethane in the groove it seems that it would hard to keep it contained. Also , it took me 25 minutes which I think is beyond the 15 min working time of the urethane. Am I missing something?

    Applying Window Weld

I also put the gasket on dry, but after the windshield was installed on the car, I injected Window Weld between the gasket and the glass. Used a plastic putty knife to skim off the squeeze-out excess and the remaining cleanup was no problem.

Thanks. I notice in one of your posts from the archives you discussed installing the lower exterior trim before the glass. You noted "seal the area afterwards". Did you use the urethane at this point or a glazing compound?

        Lower Molding

On the windshield frame itself, 3M 08509 bedding and glazing compound went on first. Then the lower stainless and a second bead of 08509 on the lower run of the frame. Next the glass/gasket assy was slid onto the lower pinchweld, using the string-pull technique to seat the remainder of the gasket. Lastly, window weld was injected between gasket/glass.

I elected to not add a bunch more sealant before installing the outer stainless. With normal washing, there's very little water intrusion, so I'm happy.

            Twan:

I've removed a couple and I've had no problems. In fact the last one I removed I could'nt get the lower outside trim loose so I cut the gasket all the way around and eased it out of the lower channel. No problem.

If you don't bend it or twist it there should be no cracking.

I would recommend that you remove the upper and side moldings, then cut the rubber all around the perimeter of the glass, then you can easily remove it. After the glass is out, then the lower molding is easy to remove because the clips are exposed.

Thanks, Mike. I think I'm about to get this figured out.
