    For Sale Posts?

Are we allowed to post 'for sale' threads on the forum? I don't remember seeing any.

    Cheers,
    Darwin.

Gary is not needed. Answer is no.

Use the DRIVELINE for selling/buying items.

This is supposed to be a technical discussion forum, for sale ads are for the Driveline publication which is also available online.

          Here we are again -----

Selling in the Driveline - ONLY - is archaic!!!

You may not be allowed to sell in a post, but it does not mean you can't contact someone with a IM or PM and tell them you have parts they may need.

PLENTY of ways to beat the stupid rule!!!

Apparently, by my deleted posts, it may not be allowed. I could have sworn it was OK. Ask Dick Whittington, he will know for sure.

                  Re: For Sale Posts?

Thanks for the feedback. The Driveline Online is functional for searching, but certainly clunky compared to the Forum. And, there is no way to initiate an online discussion about parts/cars for sale - post pictures, update an ad with new info (parts sold, clarifications, new prices, etc).

It seems like there is sufficient interest in a truly searchable interactive sales vehicle, that an additional Discussion Board(s) could be set up (cars/parts). That would keep the sales info from contaminating the Tech discussion. This is how it's done on the Corvette Forum, and it works very well.

It should be possible to take the information directly from the manually or on-line submitted Driveline ads and put them into a forum - for those that would not want to submit an ad directly to an on-line forum. The ads must be electronically processed in some way already in order to get them into print...

                  Cheers,
                  Darwin.

                    Re: For Sale Posts?

I will add just one last bit a info - then I call it quits before I get myself into trouble....

I did some research on Vette only parts I have sold in the last three years, some were NOS some were really good used original items.

Through the Corvette Forum and eBay I sold nearly $8,400 worth of stuff.

I really wanted to put the parts on here for the real NCRS guys/gals, but was forced to use the other vehicles. The only reason I did not choose to list the parts in the Driveline is because of slow speed with information is processed and disseminated. It can't really be helped, because of the frequency of print and distribution.
If I have items for sale, I need to get them sold ASAP, not a month of two later when the paper comes out.

Now I would imagine that plenty of folks from here shop at the other places mentioned, but it would be much easier here.

I wonder how many other members make a conscious decisions to place ads elsewhere - potentially robbing the NCRS forum folks of an opportunity to purchase them.

It is really time to strike a balance someway.

I can't understand how a vendor would take issue having their items listed on a online forum (as well as in print)- providing them exposure to a purchasing public worldwide.

                    Anyway -- enough ranting.
Maybe by the time I turn 50 years old, this will get resolved somehow.

Then why not stick with using the Corvette Forum and let the NCRS site remain in line with it's true charter? Frankly, I find the driveline adds useless because the asking prices are usually way out of line with market value.

Let's not forget that this site is maintained mostly by people who VOLUNTEER their time. Another forum is another forum to maintain, monitor, backup, etc.

                          Gary,

Very reasonable suggestion. I think it is a great idea for the membership to take the time to email their reps and/or take the time to talk to them at an event.

How would it work after that? At the next board meeting would it come up for discussion and vote. When/If it does come up for a vote, how would the general membership learn the results of that vote. That is to say, how would we know how each individual board member votes? That knowledge would help each member decide who to vote for during each election cycle.

                          Thanks,

                          Mark

Mark, written letters are the best as it makes it real IMHO. e-mails & phone calls are sometimes misplaced. Individual Members and Chapters can provide their input on what features and benefits they would like to have provided by NCRS. Written letters by many Members with a region on the same topic should get their respective Director's attention and that Director should then submit that topic for inclusion the Board of Director's meeting agenda. That's the process. Gary....
