    Door Jamb Detail Photos?

I'm in the final stages of paint prep. Would someone be so kind as to post some door jamb detail pictures? In particular, it would be very helpful to see some original paint detail on 1) the gutter/water deflector that is riveted to the fiberglass in front of the "B" pillar; and 2) the portion of the "A" pillar that is above the hinges and below the front fenders.

Attached are pictures taken during the paint stripping process that show the areas that I'm concerned about. The piece I'm talking about on the B pillar is in the lower right side of the picture.

    Thank you.

    Tom,

These are after the restoration. I had NO negative comments both times I had the car judged, actually got some really nice complements how near close to factory crappy I got the jambs..

      Thanks Bill. It looks great.

I didn't see the water diverters on the "B" pillars. I think they may have been for convertibles only. I assume that your car never had them. Is that right?

        Tom,

I don't think there were diverters on the 72 B pillars.

          Tom,

My car never had the diverters.

I wish it did, they really make a BIG difference. It keeps the water from running under the seat and under the sill plates.

1969 through '71 had the water diverters. For some unknown reason they disappeared in 1972, just when the seat belts were mounted in retractors in a depression under the seat and collected water.

A different style diverter was added in 1974, which I have put on my '72 driver. It keeps the carpet and seat belt dry.

Strange that the only two years with seat belts mounted underneath omitted them.

              Hi Tom,
Here are some 'before' pictures of the upper hinge pillar and weatherstrip, driver's side. It looks to me like the only tool they had to work with in this area was Capt. Hook's CLAW!!! These are from my 71, original paint.
I have some more pictures of the hinge area and the bottom of the hinge pillar if you're interested. Every bit as ugly!!!
I posted one 'after picture. It's REALLY overdone, but it's what I wanted.
              Regards,
              Alan

I'll continue the pictures in another post. I didn't know there was a limit of 4 per post.
For some reason I goofed up the sequence of how I wanted them to appear. Sorry. They should show the weather strip on and then off.

I found this picture of the car before I did any work to it - I could not have had it for more than a week.

The door jamb is virgin untouched. The car had all the original lacquer on it when I bought it (1 owner no paint work at all).

                    Reba?

Thanks, everyone, for the help. The pictures will be of great assistance.

Reba, the water diverters for a '70 should not have a rubber component, correct? Is it the later version that has the rubber? Mine don't have a rubber component now, but who knows how it was 40 years and two sloppy paint jobs ago? The way it is now, it consists only of a thin fiberglass piece attached by two rivets. Is that the way it should be?

                      For a 1970 --yes.

Yes, Tom, yours are correct. The rubber ones that fit at the back of the sill plate are the 1974> ones I mentioned before.
