68 vette wipers

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine has 68 with a wiper problem. Yesterday when turning
them on the door opened, the arms did move and the overide light came on.
In the past at times over bumps the wipers the wipers would come on. The switches under the drivers dash do nothing and we can't get wiper door to close. Everything appears to be connected and there is plenty of vacuum to the firewall side of the actuator which does not change when operating any of the wiper switches, however the headlights work just fine.

Karl there is information at the bottom of your post on problems with wipers. Even a diagram for your viewing from a previous poster. Your friends wipers coming on going over bumps indicates your friend has had a problem for some time that was not corrected. Good grounding of the system might be a good place to start investigating.
Tell your friend a original 68 owner who has experienced a battery drain due to the following. If the wiper switch is turned on with the car not running and not driven you may experience continious battery drain untill the wiper system is used full cycle with the engine running to supply the vacuum to open and close the system. To test this use a digital volt meter connected to the battery and read the voltage and then turn on the wiper switch and read the voltage with the ignition off.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the information I will pass it along to him. The one thing I forgot to mention is a warning light on for the wipers, I think it said wiper override, it is in the top rt center of the dash. We could not get it to go out and there was a loud relay type click from the dash when the battery was connected and disconnected which was mentioned in the other posts

I had the same problem and I found out that my manual switch on the divers side at the bottom of the dash had got bumped and turned off.
