    Mecum Auction Bob McDorman

The color pictures of the parts on the Mecum web site show some nice parts. I'm going down to Columbus at 6 dark 30. Anyone else going?

    Lyle,
I will be there at around 1:00 or 2:00 to check out the parts and buy a lot if the prices are "right".
I'll be in my Goodguys Life is Short, Drive a Hotrod shirt.

I just looked on Mecum's web site at the McDorman '09 auction and was perusing the vintage parts and signs. You guys that are local to the area are lucky to be able to inspect these parts in person, looks like some good stuff going to some lucky individuals, wish I could be there!

Wish I had seen your post before I went to Columbus, Thursday, would have liked to put a face with the name. I parked my white 62 driver right outside the tent. Thought prices on the signs was a bit out of my league, but did get a few parts. Got to love a guy that can collect all that stuff and all those serial number one cars.

I am searching for a VGC red trunk mat for a 57. If you should spot one, I would appreciate hearing of it.

              Terry,
Did your white 62 have a black bra on it.
              Looked like a nice car.

Guys, how were the prices? Did everything sell? You all are correct, some of the items looked very nice and original. I wanted a set of the bolt ons, bad....but I could not make out ANYTHING about them from the pictures and there were NO descriptions of the items on mecum's website...I wish I had contacted one of you guys going, I would have asked if any of you would be so kind as to inspect a set of wheels for me...Oh well...Regards. Yes car had a black bra on it. As with most drivers, a work in progress. Next year we will have to post earlier so we can meet and put faces with names.

                    Ara:

The prices on the parts looked fairly reasonable, but some were a little high. The prices on the signs were quite another thing. I was interested in a few of the signs, but they were going out of sight, even for reproductions! For example, one of the signs that I was going to bid on was Lot Z236, Busted Knuckle Garage sign. The sign sold for $500.

I was so frustrated that I just went to the "Busted Knuckle Garage" website and bought the exact same sign for $69.95. No sellers commission, no fees, no taxes, no shipping charge...just $69.95.

With respect to Z236, someone was either caught up in the moment of the auction, or has too much money.

                    Paul

I agree the prices on the signs were outrageous. There was a bidder in front of me and when someone asked him if he knew the sign he just bought was a repo his reply was " it doesn't matter I was told by my money man to buy anything that had Texaco or Fleet Wing on it". There were also several bidders from people who owned car museums. Hard to compete with those kind of deep pockets.
As with most auctions some of the car parts were reasonable others were way too high. But it only takes two people to drive the price past good sense. There wre also a few bidders from the bigger used Corvette vendors. Quite a few parts got shipped out west.

Sorry it must not have been you. Friday night I pointed out a good parking spot to a guy in a white 62 in front of the "Zinc" restruarant. He commented he had reservations for dinner there and how lucky he was to get a spot in front. I assumed it was you when you said you went to Sandusky.
I have a 67 convt, Maroon with side pipes and Toqure Thrust wheels.
