    1970 Argent Silver Paint Code?

The JG states that the Argent Silver paint for the wheels had a "green tint" to it. I can only find one paint code for this across several model years and it is the same from year to year.

Does anyone know how the correct paint code, or a formula to mix it up?

Has anyone been deducted for the wrong color in judging?

    Regards,

    Carr,

This question comes up frequently. If you perform a search on "argent silver paint" I think that you'll find an answer to your question.

I have been searching for this paint, Paragon advertises it but in the neighborhood of $65.00 per can. My spare is original and my wheels have been repainted. I was told that a good autobody supply house can shoot the wheel with there color gun and mix up the correct Argent Silver with a Green Hue.

If you have the original spare, get it scanned -- but shoot a test panel before painting the wheels. Sometimes those scanners are off a bit. Back when I did a set we found Argent from a 1980s El Camino was spot on to my wheels, but the amount of green tint changed over the years so what works of one car will be off for another. There is no one-size fits all if you want to be accurate. Also examine original wheels for the overspray pattern. There is no sense screwing that up if you go through all the trouble of matching the paint color.

            Les,

I just went through this exact situation with my '70. I have an original paint spare with the four other wheels having been painted by a previous owner with the "other" argent silver. It took me four trips to a local paint supply to get the match correct (they did it manually - not able to scan electronically). They put it into spray cans for me at $25 per can. I only needed one but now have three different formulations, two of which are not close. I can't remember my date codes but the wheels were stamped over two consecutive days (I can check tonight). My car is a mid-March build and they are close to the assembly date. If you want I can have it duplicated for you - they saved the formula. I will be in Marlboro next week if that helps.

The original finish is not going to be duplicated perfectly. My original was such a shoddy paint job with the black showing through, drips, some heavy spots, which is why it was hard to match. Everywhere you look on the wheel has different coverage. I finally had them match to a heavily coated area and I'm reasonably happy with the results. Hopefully the judges will agree.

I can also send you a card with the color sample if you want to check it out. I'm happy to help as this board has gifted me many solutions in my short time with my Corvette.

              Carr,

I just noticed you started this. I'm willing to get you the paint I had matched as well. Let me know.

              Les,

I also noticed your other post you car assembly date is Mar. 17. Mine is Mar. 18 so the wheel paint should be very close.
