for you old timers who followed SCCA races

Donna Mae Mims. Late lat week Donne Mae suffered a minor stroke that affected her facial muscles and speech, as best they can tell. She was taken to Mercy Hospital and was admitted to the Stroke Intensive Care unit, where she remains today. The prognosis is that she should recover completely with therapy, but the Dr.s are being cautious due to her age, hence the intensive care. Her longtime friend, John Conley, is looking after her well-being and affairs

Due to her national achievements in sports car racing, and her early support of Don Yenko and his Corvette racing endeavors, Donna Mae should be considered a genuine Pittsburgh treasure. Let's keep her in our prayers, and hope for a quick recovery.

I've only seen black & white photos of it, but the slight "shading" doesn't quite look like white to me, Terry.
I'll bet it was in fact pink.

IIRC, she raced a pink Corvair, too.

                Clem,

Shocked to hear about Donna Mae! She certainly is a Pgh. CCA racing treasure!! Well said!

I also recall her 193 Corvette racer as being pink, as well as her little dog Pedro (dyed pink)! The photo was taken at Cumberland, MD.

Last time I heard John Conley's name he was working on a book about his SCCA racing neighbor Lowther and Gulf Oil. Do you know if this endeavor was ever finished.

                Regards, Jim (stroke survivor).

I just watched a brief clip of the 1957 Nassau Speed Week on TCM. I wouldn't doubt that she was there.

I wonder how I can get a copy of that Nassau clip?

                            1957 ( dec.1956 ) or 1958 ( dec.1957 )

She was suppose to attend Corvettes at Carlisle "RACE CAR REUNION". Now I know why she DID NOT Show. We all asked abolut her, and missed her humor. Fun Gal.

Seems like I have been praying for many of our racers and family members. Say one for Willy Guldstrand also, who is recovering slowly from cancer surgary. Talked to her on Wednesday. Slow, but sure. Doing much better this last week. Kemo and radiation every Tuesday and Thursday keep her in constant confusion as to the sucess of the surgery. But her spirits were much better this past week.
