    caliper repair

The right front caliper on my 66 has started to leak ( dot 3 ). After removing the wheel,I can see where it has leaked on the rim in about 5 places. My question is,If on removal I find that the O rings are the problem and no sign of leaking from the pistons seals, can I replace just the O rings ? The calipers, rotor, and the pads look new. I am sure they have less than 3K miles.
Also, can I replace just one caliper or should they be replaced in pairs?

The casting #s on the calipers are 5452273 on the inside and 5452270 on the outside. The #s on the left side start with 547.

Thank you for any advise on what I should do

I assume that by o-ring you are referring to the o-ring seal that installs between the caliper halves. If so, I seriously doubt that it's your problem unless it was installed improperly, or not at all. In either case, though, I would think your calipers would have been leaking from day-one. In any event, you can just replace the o-ring seal without replacing anything else. However, if I separated the caliper halves and found anything other than an OBVIOUS PROBLEM with the o-ring, I think I'd look for other leak sources on the caliper.

If the calipers are relatively new as you decribed, you could replace just one. If aged, I always recommend replacing in pairs, if not car sets.

Your right side caliper halves are not original to your car. They are from the L1967-72 period. Your left side caliper half is not original to the car, either. It's from the 1973-82 period.

Your car originally was equipped with 1st design calipers. None of the caliper half casting numbers you mentioned are 1st design.
