Hello, all corvette experts. My 1967 convertible 327 has a roof leak. I got caught in the rain yesterday (oops) and water leaked from above the windshield header. The weatherstripping looks good on inspection, but obviously something needs to be done. Can I repair (how?) or should I replace? Is replacement within the capabilities of a mere mortal such as myself? Please help! Rich Weddle

Re: 67 convertible roof leak
Hi Richard!
My '65 Conv. has the same problem, i rebuild the soft top some years ago and recently i rebuild my hard top it also let water thru. I think this is a Mid year disease, outerwise please let me know, You can also try to adjust the soft top, usually it take some towels with me when i expect rain.

Re: 67 convertible roof leak
Richard:
I had the same problem with my '65 when I first bought it and got caught in a South Florida downpour. Water was cascading onto the dashboard and me from the "seal" between the convertible top and windshield. On my car, I noticed that the thick black weatherstripping really didn't align properly with the stainless top of the windshield frame (it didn't make good contact). My top is white, so I went to Home Depot and bought the thickest weatherstripping they sell (it looks like two half-round pieces side-by-side). It's called "All Climate ThermalBlend Rubber Weatherseal" made by md Door & Window. I also purchased the best 3/4" wide double-face tape they sell as the self-adhesive on the weatherstripping won't hold. I applied the new white weatherstripping to the front edge of the vinyl top adjacent to the thick black existing weatherstripping (toward the windlace). You don't see the new weatherstripping at all when the top is closed, and the seal is much improved as it is now making better contact with the stainless steel windshield frame. Give it a try as it is inexpensive and should solve your problem. Make sure to buy good tape or the weatherstripping won't stick for very long! Another NCRS member tried my suggestion and told me that it helped his windshield water leak, too.
Good luck,

Re: 67 convertible roof leak
I hear that frequently--"They ALL leaked"...
On my first drive from London to LeMans, I remember both British and Dutch members out in the car park applying duct tape to soft top to windshield header of their convertibles to reduce leaks! It was the subject of a luncheon discussion and I told them to flip through their AIM books to find the factory water test that was supposedly done on all cars built/shipped.
Well, this summer I drove my '71 to San Jose with Rob Musquetier from Holland. Yep, we hit RAIN along the way! Others on the road tour with us wondered where our towel(s) were and why we weren't looking for a dryer for them at our evening stops.
Answer: no towels, don't need 'em when the soft top is installed and adjusted correctly. They don't ALL leak!- Top

Re: 67 convertible roof leak
Rich:
Just wondering if you tried my additional weatherstripping solution for your convertible top leak, or did you try something else that worked? Let me know what you decided to do and if it solved your issue.
Thanks,

Re: 67 convertible roof leak
thanks everyone for some great ideas. I did apply some additional weatherstripping as advised. I wont know if it works until I get caught in the rain again!- Top
