    56 Zinc shifter plate Trivia

I heard there is a new 56-57 JM and don't know if it covers the shifter plate for the 56.But thought I would mention it here!
Of most 56's I ever see or judged, few ever have the correct first design plate. All dealers sell only the second design plate 3 speed that is aluminum but the first 56's used a 3 speed shifter plate made of zinc and NOT aluminum . It's one of the rarest items you'll ever see or find for a 56. Your comments are welcomed. Any one know when the second design aluminum came to be????? Mid or late 56 ????

    Zinc plate

    1 the characters are different
2 they are deeply in bossed
    3 the plate is about 4 ounce's
    4 are Zinc

    While the aluminum plate

    1 the characters are different
2 they are much less in bossed
3 the plate is about 1 ounce
    4 are aluminum

Once you know the differeance you'll know what to look for

Roy, the new 5th Ed. of the JM states in a table on page 9 that the shift pattern plate for 3 speed and PG cars was zinc diecast base for '56 cars and '57 to approximately VIN #400. The remainder were aluminum.

'Good pics of your '55 and other NCRS cars at San Jose in the October Vette Vues.
