Joe L Help with Pulley For a 110084 Alternator

I have a 69 350/300 with PS/PB/AC with a 1100884 alternator with a one piece machined pulley. In the TIMJG the pulley should be 3899187AW in a thread dating back a few years ago you stated it was a stamped pulley GM# 1949356 without a keyway.

What is the correct application and do you know where I can get one?

    Thanks,

This issue of alternator pullies can be a VERY confusing one. One of the reasons for it is that I believe that up to several different pullies may have been used in PRODUCTION for the same application.

I don't know what the GM #3899187 was. As far as I can tell, it was never a SERVICE-available piece. It's possible that it was the Chevrolet part number for one of the Delco-Remy part numbered pullies. Parts like these pullies often have dual part numbers.

Currently, the judging guide and technical manual calls out the GM #3909817 for your application. Personally, I doubt that this pulley was ever originally used, though. The 3909817 is a ONE PIECE pulley and fan combination. I have not seen such a pulley on a 1969 application although I don't rule out that this part was ever used. Generally, I think of the 3909817 as a pulley that was used for 1967-68 applications (which used a DN-series alternator unlike the SI series first used for 1969).

As I mentioned in the previous post, I think that pulley GM #1949356 was used. This is also the piece that the AIM says was used. This is a stamped steel pulley that is marked only with a "6". It's also possible that pullies GM #1949357 or 1949355 were used. These pullies are marked with a "7" or a "5", respectively, and are slightly different in OD than the 1949356. Otherwise, they are the same configuration as the 1949356.

Any of the above pullies would have been used with separate fan GM #1966990. Essentially, the GM #1949356 + 1966990 would be nearly the equivalent of the one-piece GM #3909817.

So, where to get one? Well, neither piece is reproduced as far as I know but, then again, neither is rare. They were used for LOTS of other applications in the 69+ period.

A photo of the GM #1949356 and 1966990 is attached for your reference. The first photo depicts the 1959356 and 1966990. The second photo is a close-up of the 1949356 so you can see the stamped "6".

The third photo shows the actual GM #1949357 + 1966990 which were actually originally installed on my original owner 1969 300 hp without P/S or A/C. The fouth photo is a close-up of the 1949357 with stamped "7". Note that the JG says that the 1949356 ("6") was used for my application. I don't doubt that the 1949356 may have been used for some applications like mine but it was not used for my particular car. I think it's just an example of the fact that variations did occur with these alternator pullies.
