    couldn't be easier.
First slide seat all the way forward. Lift cutaway carpet slightly to see two bolts that hold strap clamp at rear of each seat track. Spray two bolts holding strap clamp with WD-40. Unscrew two bolts holding clamps that hold down each track. With clamps removed, lift seat from back and pull up and back. Front of tracks do not have bolts holding them in. Seat will lift out.

      John,

As Don said the rear seat track is held down with a clamp. On 1966 model year the rear seat track sits on a metal plate to spread the clamping force over a larger area rather than directly on the fiberglass floor. Also the front track has a bolt holding it in place.

One issue you may have is the seat bolts screw into a nut plate under the car. Not sure if applicapable to all C2's but on 1966 yes. These nuts frequently strip out and a quick fix is to use longer bolts and nut on the bottom of the car. If yours has been "fixed" this way you will have to hold the nut underneath while unscrewing the bolt on the top side.

        John,

Giving the year of your C2 would be a good idea. There is some difference.

Some have two bolts and others have more. Some are in the front and rear.

          Don -

For '64-'66, it's a lot easier to remove only the front track-to-floor bolts and pull the seat forward and out; it's not necessary to remove the rear strap clamps.

Reading this series is giving me acid flashbacks. The scene is 14 months ago in Wendover Utah. It's 10pm and I'm under the light in the hotel parking lot removing the front seat in my 66 roadster because the pivot bolt has backed out and the seat back is flopping around. With 1500 miles left to go on my return to Illinois, it had to be fixed. I had it out, fixed and installed within 30 minutes. Ok, it's not the Woods Bros. in terms of speed but it still worked pretty well.

Bottom line, John Hinckley's description of how-to is exactly how it worked in my 66. Pretty simple and straightforward. Good luck John R. and have fun. This is all a good time!

            Cheers,

Mike, what happened to you is exactly what is my problem. This is a 67 coupe. So is it the two bolts? Thanks for the help!

                John:

67s have 4 bolts to remove seat, two in front and two in the rear. As mentioned before slide the seat forward a much as possible unbolt the two bolts at the back of the seat frame, then slide the seat back and unbolt the two bolts in the front of the seat frame. I believe they are 1/2 inch bolts. fold the seat back forward and take the seat out. simple process!!!!

Of course I goofed up my reply; I'm a newbie too, and still learning. I should have wrote that for my 65, unbolt two bolts, one at front of each slide rail, lift seat and pull up forward to pull back of each rail out of clamps. Nothing to unbolt at rear. Just as JohnZ described. EZ

                    Hi John,
Welcome aboard newbie! With a 67 you will have 4 bolts to remove. It is NOT as I and others have described for our 65s and 66s. Still it appears to be relatively simple. Click on this link and it should take you to the Long Island Corvette online that has a schematic of the 67 seat. It shows that it has 4 bolts.

John, as you will no doubt be wanting and needing to do other items to your car, I'd suggest you take a look at the NCRS online book store and order a few things to help you. I'd suggest starting with the following:

AIM - The Assembly Information Manual is the bible for how your car was assembled in St. Louis 42 years ago. It can sometimes be cryptic and the schematics can take awhile to figure out but it is by far and away the best source for info on how your car is put together.

Chassis Service Manual - This is the other indispensable source of info for the inner workings of your car and how systems are supposed to function.

Vendor Catalogs - These aren't in the NCRS book store but they are available on line and can be very useful as well, as in the example of the link above. They offer photos, schematics (often lifted straight out of the AIM) and descriptions that can help. Of course you need to exercise a bit of buyer's caution here but it is a resource to keep in mind.

In addition to these items there are some other great resources like Noland Adams encyclopedia of the C2. I'm not sure if it is still in print but it is pricey but incredible for it's wealth of info on how C2s were built. The past issues of The Restorer are also available on CD which is really useful as a resource. There no doubt will be others on this board with great suggestions but these should be a good start. You could also use the Search function on this TDB to check the archives for past recommendations on publications to start. These archives have helped me out over and over again.

Good luck John with your seat removal and all of your future endeavors. It's great to have you in the NCRS and on the TDB.

                    Cheers,

Re: how to remove C2 drivers seat, help!

                        John:
I also have a 67 with pivot bolts that back out about once a year.
Slide seat all the way forward and remove the rear bolts, I use a socket with extension. Slide all the way to the rear and remove the front bolts. I find I can't reach with a socket so have found the best to be a new ratchet box end wrench. This slides in under the front of the seat and makes the job go quick, a regular open or box wrench will work but there is little room for much movement. Be careful lifting the seat, it is heavy and top heavy, easy to nick something. I cover the door jamb with a blanket.
Good luck, after you have done it once it can be done is about 30 minutes. The first time may take a little longer as with most things.
                        Jack
