    Convertible Top Cleaning

As I recently replaced my top on my 87 roadster I thought I should use a cleaner and protectant now to keep it looking new. My question is which is the better product. Ecklers carries a 303 Fabric/vinyl cleaner kit and RaggTopp kit. Have any of you had any experience with either and which to you think is the best?

I have no comparison, per say, to offer as I've used Raggtop with much success. Know, however, my top is the old school, vinyl type. Not sure about your C4 top...

      Don,

My top appears to be a fabric type. If I use the 303 or the RaggTopp will it do the job or should I look for another type of cleaner?

I have used Raggtopp cleaner and protectant on my vinyl top. I was very impressed with this product. It was one of those products that I thought "wow, this stuff really works". It is also endorsed by Haartz who is the largest manufacturer of auto tops. I bought mine at a local interior shop. It is available from many sources.

Hi Ken. Try this link. If I clipped it right, it should take you to Raggtop's website. They like 303 for fabric convertible tops. My vinyl convertible top uses another part number (RT-2143). I have no experience with 303, therefore, must yield to others here on that. Hope this helps...

I have used both products , I like the 303 cleaner better but for fabric tops the ragg top lasted longer and gave a better appearance. For vinyl tops they both work equally well

Thanks to all of you that replied. It certainly has made my choice of product much easier. Based on Don & Marks comments I am going to give the 303 a try. Thanks again fellas.

It has been a long time since I cleaned the white top on my 63, and this is primarily due to the products available some time back. I read with dismay how they could be harmful to the paint finish on the body. I always figured, who in their right mind would use a product that they had to rinse off over the body and how the heck else could you do it? I rarely put my top up so it has not been a matter I needed to face.

So you all are telling me that today's products are safe to use, i.e. strong enough to clean the top, yet not caustic enough to damage the body paint, or at least the waxed finish?

If so, maybe I'll look into it some day again.

I spray the cleaner (and preserver) on the clean cloth and wipe onto the top. Done this since the top was new/fresh, so I can't speak to whether or not it'll clean any accumulated stuff off
