    67 ECL's

    Are the ECL's the same on the tank sticker and the window sticker?

    Example: 2M21AB 4 SPD CL RATIO TRAN,
    2J50GA VACUUM POWER BRAKE

    Yes; except that on the window sticker, they dropped the first zero that shows on the tank sticker prefix "02". Also, those weird 02Yxxyy codes that appear on AO Smith '67 body tank stickers under 'Comfort and Con.' (see Noland's Vol 2, page 45) do not show up on window sticker with that coding.

            Thanks, Wayne for your reply. I thought I was reading Adams book correctly.

              Pat -

              I wrote a Tech Article in the May '09 issue of "Corvette Enthusiast" magazine entitled "Alphabet Soup" that explains what they are, and why and how they were assigned by Engineering and used for procurement and production control.

                    I don't have an as-published .pdf with photos and captions of that one yet, but if you call the Customer Service desk at (800) 448-3611 they can send you a back issue. Or shoot me an e-mail and I can send you just the text as a Word file.

                      Thanks, Pat - That was last night, and it was really an emotional moment for me (I'm still in Bowling Green).

                        This should be the great article John wrote. I had to split the article in to two attachments since the file exceeded the upload size limit. The first page of the pdf files will be blank, but the entire article should be there including the images.

                          Re: 67 ECL's

                          As John says, the assembly process is a VERY complex process and to further illustrate it I submit the following:

                          GM did an internal study in the early 80s on their full size Chevrolet (B" car) looking into how many different combinations were possible. The study showed that there were 700,000 different configurations possible. In other words they could conceivably build 700,000 "B" cars without building two EXACTLY alike. I would speculate that the Corvette would be somewhere in that range.

                            Hello Art;
                            That is an amazing fact.
                            Difficult to wrap my little brain around how complex the production process really was/is.
                            Thanks.
