Moving along in the process of putting my 69 350/350 couple back together and now I'm looking at re-installing the hood. The hood opened fine when I disassembled the car but since I've cleaned up the male part and not real sure I have those at the same height as previous, I'm a little concerned about closing the hood and it not opening. Is there something I can do that would work as a safety valve in case it doesn't open?

Re: 69 hood
Jim - I've only read about this awhile ago and never tried it, but you should be able to remove the wiper door, and on the passenger side of the firewall on the top where the spring/catch is located is one of those plastic plugs. Pop it out and stick a srewdriver in there to release the catch.

Re: 69 hood
MORE than reasonable precaution to ask about this! I once closed and latched the hood on my '71 before proper alignment verification and wished I'd never been born! It took quite a while to get it back open and '70 and later Shark cars have REMOVABLE egg crate style, removable fender panels to give you additional working room. The 68-69 cars with their fixed Shark gill fenders don't cut the same degree of 'slack'...
Here's a decent trick... Cover the hood catches (firewall) with aluminum foil. Gently close the hood so the latches leave an indent in the foil. Make sure you're centered in the middle of the opening. When done, you're good to go!- Top

Re: 69 hood
Thanks Jack, that seems like a good idea to get the pins at least centered correctly. My concern stems from a previous experience when I restored by Jag XK140. After reinstalling the hood I closed the it and then couldn't get it open and like you, wished I hadn't been born.- Top
