I found an original air cleaner cover for my new car, but it has pitting on the top portion (bottom is perfect). I have options, but unsure what is the best route for most judging points. 1. have it polished and re-chromed (loose the silk screening). 2. have it polished, cover the silk screen then chromed (will leave a line between the original and new chrome where it was masked off) 3. have it rechromed and find someone to re-do the silk screening. 4. find another cover in better shape? Re: Air cleaner cover (14" open style)
I have my original and I want to keep it but when I asked about rechroming and keeping the silk screening they said it couldn't be done..
I call BS on that most places are just too lazy to mask it and work around it.
not sure how I want to go yet either.- Top

Pauls chrome, labrandis?, nu-chrome etc..
I didn't buy it though I know it can be masked off.
I also asked everyone of them if they would flash chrome my pieces instead of triple plate them none said they would do it.
why they would turn business away I have no clue?- Top

Air cleaner cover & silk screen; Richard Fortier is the best
Guys,
The person to speak with about air cleaner re-chroming and re-silk screening is Richard Fortier. He advertises in the Driveline. Richard has newly designed silk screen artwork for most years that is spot-on. There is none better. Richard can also have the cover chromed in a way that mimics the original GM process, not the incorrect show chrome result.

Re: Air cleaner cover (14" open style)
Speaking of old Chrome Air Cleaners;
Has anyone ever had a Vette air cleaner base loose all it's inside chrome (peel away down to the copper)? My 63 lost it early on. I used to check it every so often for loose chrome, then peel away any curled edges for fear of it going into the engine. I suppose some did get through, but my L-76 never complained about it. You'd think that stuff would be undigestibly hard.
Just wodered if mine was so unique.
