    New Restorer CD

Apologize up front for the rants below and the moderator can delete the thread if it is inapproriate.

After waiting nearly 2 months for it, I received my updated Restorer CD v35.4 and to be brutally honest, the performance is unacceptable. On XP computer with 1 GB of RAM, it took 22 minutes to load with no other apps running. On our Vista laptop with 4GB it took 6 minutes. I took a look at CD and the app is now nearly 500MB which explains it

After launching it, I see that we are still stuck with 800x600 resolution message which is disappointing with technology advances over last 10 years!

I'm sure there are explanations and history behind why it is the way that it is, but with all the technology advances and improvements made, it is puzzling and frustrating why NCRS staff (who are underpaid or not paid at all) cannot produce a product that works decently.

From what I understand, an external vendor was cause of delays and appreciate that NCRS staff did all they could, but they should accept the responsibility and go find another vendor who can produce a CD that we can be proud to use.

    Thomas,

Are you a volunteer for the job of updating the CD? I'm sure your expertise would be appreciated by the many volunteers that make this organization run smoothly.

    Regards,

    JR

Without starting a flame war with you, if they want help, I'll help. I apologized up front when I made the comments and appreciate that it is largely a volunteer effort. However, when you pay $150 or $40 for an upgrade, you expect things to work a bit better

        Hi Everyone,
If you have problems/questions with anything that you get from us in Cincinnati (books, manuals, etc.)- just email or call us. We're always happy to get it straightened out.

I normally don't check the Tech Board for questions- a friend told me that someone needed help.

I grabbed one of the new CD's out of inventory and was looking up articles in 30-45 seconds on a (slightly dated) Dell XP system. The only speed question that we've ever had on the CD's is testing wether it was faster to load the articles/photos into memory and then search as opposed to leaving them on the CD. I'm sure that there was a few millisecond difference, but as human, I couldn't tell.

        Contact us is Cincinnati at
        info@ncrs.org

and we'll get the CD problem (or anything else) fixed right away.

        Still catching up from Carlisle...
Nice seeing everyone there as always!

        Regards,
        Eric & Gary
