    Comments on this VIN tag?

Any thoughts on the originality of this tag?

Is the area behind it scratched as much as the area around it? Might be from a diff. corvette. Does it match the number on the frame?

Look at it as if it were an engine pad, then tell me what is wrong with it. Remember look at both the "pad" and the "stamps".

Hmmmm....the vin# on your photo is "back" stamped right? Also the left/right ends appear to be cut off. i.e. the edge should be ridged around the entire circumference.

The vin should be stamped from the front, leaving deep depressions, correct?

p.s. I own a 59, and my vin tag doesn't look like that. I'll have to got look at it again.

The embossment goes all around except at the screw holes.

The VIN is stamped from the front, not the back. It doesn't show much on the back surface and you can't feel the characters.

My '59 VIN is not centered, but offset to the right.

This is a bogus vin tag. The vin number should be stamped from the front and justified to the right. The tag itself should have the raised ridge all the way around not just top and bottom. Rich

Yep. Here is pic of a correct appearing 59 VIN tag. A bit hard to see, but the differences are apparent.

This "59" in question is currently on Ebay as a project car.
