Guys I need help figuring this out. Installed new dash harness and rebuilt the instrument cluster in a 1967 coupe (new gauges, faces, etc.). The light bulbs and old harness were completely wiped out and half the bulbs were incorrect and /or missing. It totally needed this. Here is the scoop, the problem that I'm having is that the three indicators that show the high beams ( red circle) head light position (lights) and parking brake ( park) are lit in that area. BUT not by those specific bulbs. They are working/ functioning correctly. Somehow when all the dash lights (gry) come on and are in the correct location , looks like it is lighting up that area. My big question is should they be somewhat lit (dim) whenever the lights are on and then light up brighter when the actual function is called for. I have the correct flashing bulb #257 in the light location and that blinks and goes out accordingly. The parking light #1816 and the high beam indicator #1445 also function correctly. Help!!

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Mark:
Going by memory since it's been several years since I rebuilt my cluster.
I thought that the three lights in question were separated from the light overspill of the "general" cluster bulbs by short cardboard/plastic tubes underneath the back cover( one for each light) that act as shields from the surrounding lights. The only way to find out is to pull the cluster and disassemble it.- Top

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Hi Mark,
Yep, I think Ken's right here. Sure sounds like you may have left out the 3 thick short cardboard tubes that shield these indicators from other sources of light. Hope we're wrong.
Take care,

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Guys thanks, but I know exactly what your talking about. I did not leave those out. They go inside the white plastic insulator (same as the blinkers). Thought the same thing. My question would be do the cardboard seperators extend from the white plastic insulator to the tin cover and not fully in the white insulator?- Top

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Mark,,
The cardboard tubes have rubber seals on each one of them. Extend the cardboard sleeves in the rubber seals so the light will be completely sealed out. The rubber seals become hard and are difficult to deal with sometimes and leak light causing your problem.

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Joe, thanks.
When I took mine apart it had the rubber seals on the 2 blinker locations but not at the three center lights. So if thats whats missing from my original, how do they go on the three center ones when they are installed into the white plastic divider. Don't the three cardboard insulators mount flush with the white divider, and that divider can only be installed one way into the housing? I'm lost here.- Top

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
Mark,
First of all the rubber seals do not go on the blinkers. There are three that go on the center in behind the plastic divider and on the outside of the metal frame.
I'm sending you this pics to explain. I think this will clear it in your mind and you'll remember how it was when you first removed it from your 67.
Any more questions, feel free.

Re: Help! !!! 67 dash lights
JR,
Thanks, Mine was not correct and I believe that I see what is wrong. First I do not have, nor was there, the rubber seals on the the three center pieces of card board. And who ever was in mine prior put those three cardboard insulators inside the white divider, (crushed to fit). Which did not block the light from the main cluster to the back tin. That is why I they left the light bulb out in that area. I believe I got it. So now that you figured that out for me where do I get the new rubber seals (3) and cardboards (5). Are you Joe Ray, as in Joe Ray Parts? Thanks Again Mark- Top
