Brandon give Paragon a call. Ask them a heap of questions like how they manufacture their hoods and what type of process they use in glassing. It's got to be better than 51 years ago ?????????? maybe !! Stewy

        thanks!

No original or repro that I know of has that circle. It would be a little stupid to make a reproduction hood and do something like that wouldn't ya think? If its not a wear mark, then someone intentionally cut the relief for some reason. The hood itself looks original as far as I can tell from a picture of that quality, but the mark certainly isn't.

          Brandon,
It looks like in the center (or slightly off center) of the circle there is a mark possibly made by the air cleaner stud.
Can you give your opinion on what it is ?

Stewy, You think Paragon actually manufactures fiberglass parts?

It looks like someone modified the hood to make additional clearance for an air cleaner.

A previous owner installed a 350 in my 1960 with a low profile manifold and Edelbrock carb and I searched real hard for an air cleaner that would clear everything and still give adequate filtration. I couldn't find a good alternative and Edelbrock and Holley could not suggest a manifold that would give me more clearance.

If it is an original hood then the ribs could be repaired without too much of an issue.

Brandon - can you post of picture of your hood to get input if it could be repaired.

If you knew someone with a 58 hood and could make a mold then you could get a decent result. It would be good practice for learning how to fiberglass.

here is mine as you can see it's a completely different hood so I can't modify it to make it look original.

                    Brandon,

I don't think that is a GM piece, further I cannot understand why the circular indents on the inside do not show on the outside. I owned a late '58 with an original hood and there are seem to be a few other 'anomolies' that makes me question it's originality, like where are the hood hinge mounting plates?

Any plans to go with stock wheels ? I changed mine and was real happy with the look. It made a big difference for the little time.

Yeah we eventually will get this car back the way it came new.

the original owner bought it at age 18 so he hopped it up some with the hood, paint (why brown i have no clue)

the 2nd owner bought it in 1975 and didn't change a thing now we bought it so the way it sets now is the way the original owner had it the 2nd owner bought it brown etc..car is actually very nice no hit car, no rust, just has the ugly paint, wrong hood, wrong wheels.

the motor is a 1960 dated 283 so it's a NOM the original owner must have blew the original one. I've been trying to contact him I have his name and atleast an address he used to live at but haven't had luck yet wanting to see if he has any original parts like the engine or hood.

i know its a little late to comment on this hood, but i was looking for something else and noticed brandons hood has a 1960 frame under it, so no, not an original piece

Let me make it simple, the grooves in the louvers don't belong there and were not on original hoods. better to look elsewhere...

This is an unrestored hood from vin 4201. The cut out was made in 1965 when the son of the original owner added 3x2 Strombergs which were on the 327 engine when we found the car in the barn in 2003 here in So. Cal. Hope this helps
