I am looking for a spare tire lock for my new 66 coupe and need help...Is there a specific part number for the spare tire lock? Should the lock be painted black or natural cast? Is the key the "B" key or ingition key? (judging manual only states the notch @ 3 o'clock)

Re: Spare tire lock 1966
Daniel - Unfortunately, as far as I know the pre-1967 spare tire locks all had the same part number even though the configuration changed a bit from 1962 to 1966. The spare tire lock used on the 66 Corvette is unique and is a one year only piece although any of the spare tire locks from 1963 up into the 80s will meet the form and function requirements.
For an original 1966 spare tier lock for your 66 you're looking for a spare tire lock that that is configured as follows:
has a non-letter keyway lock cylinder and uses a non-letter round head GM/Briggs & Stratton key,
has a lock cylinder that has an ~5/8" dia bezel with a "U" notch at the edge,
has a case, i,e, the lock body, that is UNPAINTED (please note that most if not all for the reproduction spare tire lock cases are painted because they are made from 1967 or newer spare tire lock cases and need to be painted to cover the modifications to the case,
has a case with B1 embossed (not a B2) on the bottom face,
has a case with a 3/8" dia. (not a 1/4" dia) drain hole.

Re: Spare tire lock 1966
Dan - I don't know about p/n 3933819 but I expect it is a newer part number because the 66 Corvette AIM and the 1966 October Parts & Accessories Catalog show p/n 3867322. The 1973 & 1983 Corvette's Parts Catalogs show p/n 3912416.
Where did the 3933819 part number come from? Also, this part number is not available at GMPartsDirect.

Spare tire lock bolt
Daniel
GM # 3933819 is the number for a long spare tire lock bolt, not the lock. I've had an interest in spare tire locks for a number of years I have never seen an NOS '66 spare tire lock for sale. And, as Pete says, there is no substitute, as in a repro or service replacement lock, if you want a lock that is 100% correct for '66. E-mail me off-line if you want more information: garybeaupre@comcast.net.
