Renting an enclosed trailer????????

I am planning on taking my 67 Lynndale Roadster to Kissimmee for my first time having the car judged in January. I OJ'd last year. I live in Florida, about 4 hours from Kissimmee. I would like to trailer the car a couple of hours, and drive it the remaining hour or two to get the driving points as well as enjoy the car on the open road. I have an SUV and a friend that is coming with me, so he can drive the SUV and trailer as I drive the car. Any suggestions on where I can rent an enclosed trailer? I really do not want an open trailer. Anyone ever run into this problem? I do not have any friends with an enclosed trailer..Any help is appreciated. Thanks ARA

If your car will drive two hours just drive it four and forget the trailor. Start now by taking your car out in the afternoon at lest three days a week and get any problems that come up fixed. If you log 1000 miles before Jan 2010 your car will usally make the trip. Trailing arms should be a big item to make sure they have been serviced. I would leave early their will be lots of trailors at the meet so if you have a friend their they could come and get you if you break down.

Ara, If my situation, I'd drive the car.......but I'd have a buddy with an open trailer tag along just in case. Of course, either open or closed, if you did break down you'd still need a winch or pulling device to get it up on it. If you drive it you'll just have to deal with cleaning it up, however the judges don't hit you hard at all for a few bugs in your grille.

After the meet you could either drive it home or load it up on the trailer for the ride.

In '08 I drove my 59, and my wife drove her 63 PG coupe, about 120 miles one way to Kissimmee. The driving points helped get me a flight award for my 59. 4 hours is a long drive but I'd bet you'd feel very happy after the ride.

I just put 20 hours of driving time on my '73 going to, from, and wandering around Carlisle. What would trailering part way gain?

Wanted to drive to carlisle my wife said...I said OK (with reservations). We left long Island NY at 6AM on friday, sat in traffic and pouring rain until 10AM, once we got going the car ran like BUTT! After a long stop troubleshooting (4 hours) we were on our way.

Never made it to carlisle on friday but made it to our hotel nearby. Drove there in the moning, in the rain, washed it, parked in the fun field, happily started our day and it began to pour! About an hour later the sun came out, we finished shopping for parts. After returning to our spot we found that we were picked as a Celeberties Choice! WOW!!!

All that nasty weather along with breaking down, it seemed all worth while. It was just one of the life experiences we go through and look back on and smile about.

Drive them and see what happens, it might bring you a smile someday!

Ara,

Drive the car for as many points as you can get. Never can tell that it may make a difference in the judging outcome. I think the judges are probably a little more lenient with a driven car vs a trailer queen.

Like Lyle said above, take a number of trips, and work out any of the bugs in "Rhonda". Build your confidence in her.

I did about 3k miles going to various NCRS events with no problems in my 67, some 8 to 10 hour trips. What do you know, I lose a trailing arm on a 100 mile trip to a chapter event. Got it fixed and have done another 1500 since.

A trailer is OK just as a safety measure. It's nice to know that if you have a problem, you are not stranded someplace. But I also have Triple A premium.

My son and I live here in Orlando and we went down this road a few times already with his low mileage Pace Cars. We checked all over for a rental w/o much success - even at the east coast. There are a lot of folks in the business though that own a trailer and a towing vehicle, and are a fairly reasonable source for such a "one time" use. We used the service of one to go to a chapter meet and they hung around all day to trailer it back home - very reasonable.

On the other hand, my son resently sold his last PC to an outfit in Miami who contracted with a "fly by night" outfit. They showed up with an open trailer with a steep load angle. They drove the car on and about ruined the clutch in the process (i.e. black smoke). They didn't speak English either so trying to advise them on what to do was impossible. He had a second set of wheels and tires to go along, and they had trouble securing them for the trip. Good Luck Compadre!

Thanks guys for all the posts. I am up in the air about the whole thing. I really would like the security and comfort of knowing it's on the trailer. Also, it;s an original miles car so that's a consideration. I do not know her well enough to "trust" her enough to drive her the 4 hours or so, so I completely understand the recommendation of driving her locally to get to know her. I really would like to drive her though, I must admit. My past cars I have put miles on. Regardless my buddy will be following me in my truck, and regardless of what I decide to do - Rhonda and I will be at the Kissimmee show for my first car getting judged. Nerves galore....Other than horse tranquilizers, any recommendations for first time judging?? Thanks again to all posters....ARA

My wife and I just drove our 1967 Coupe to San Jose on the NCRS Road Tour 3882 miles from Canada. Bill Sangrey is a great Road Tour leader. We met many new and old friends. You can not hurt those good old cars. If we could have used all of our driving points.(did not need any) 132 % would have been the score.
