    1967 Hood Support help

I am trying to discern if the hood support on my car is original and would pass judging. I know the JM has a part number listed, and also the Atwood logo. Mine has the Atwood stamped into the support, but I can not see the part number - from memory the JM states it is 16077. Will this pass judging? Anyone have on like mine - meaning one with the Atwood stamped into the support but no part number? Thanks, as always...ARA

    Ara:

My 1967 small block is the same way: logo but no part number. Late March 1967 build.

Car is low mile (26,000 mile) with an un-hit body, so I doubt it was replaced. But then again, you never know unless you are the original owner.....and I am not.

    Let's see what others report.

      Yes, Ara, could be.
Try looking again with a flashlight flat aginst the plain of the other section of the support.
Often the 16077 is very lightly stamped.

My 1967 hood support has the opposite problem: part number is present but no Atwood logo. Judging from its "patina" I suspect it is original to the car, but that doesn't seem to stop the judges from making a deduction because they don't see the Atwood logo.

I've also seen no ATWOOD with number on cars but can't say they are original to car, possible over the counter replacement............?

I had a support with just the ATWOOD and no number, sold it at Carlisle. Figured it was a repop.

            Re: 1967 Hood Support help

One time I was going to write a short article on this hood support thing but didn't. Many variations of mid year hood supports.
At the Marlborough regional in 06 my 63 got dinged for an SR hood support. It had the part number but no Atwood.
Thinking back I remember buying it new in the early 80's from Chevy.

Bought a really nice one from Jimmy Greg that had the Atwood and part number on the same side.
I have seen them with Atwood on one side and the part number on the other side. Have seen hood supports with just Atwood and no part number. Or so I thought. Looking quite closely on the inside of the u-channel you may fine a light stamping of the 16077.

Another issue is the big rivet holding the two pieces together. The plating of the rivet I mean. If you get your original hood support dipped in zincad then you may get a deduct also because of plating on the rivet or at least the washer??? I forget. JD

I made a post on this subject a few years ago but got little response.

              Ara,

Looked at mine this morning (late June 67/327/300).

Found the Atwood sloppily stamped up near the top hood bracket. Looked all over and inside the track, couldn't find a part number.

I'm sure this is my original hood brace, no reason to change it in 41 years with the car.

                Re: 1967 Hood Support help

Thanks guys. I will look closer with a light to see if the part number is there or not. Jerry, your car and mine must be built closely as I am in the last 1000 built. AO Smith body convertible. The support "looks" the part, but one never knows. Good to know that there are some originals out there that have the ATWOOD and no (or faint) part number.. I am trying to capture ALL the points I can. Thanks again to all for their input on my amp gauge and brake lights problem. My car (hopefully) will show you it's tailights in Kissimmee......Regards. ARA. I will post if I find a faint part number. ARA

                  Ara & Jerry,
I also have a late build 67, June 19th, and if I remember correctly, I have the Atwood stamping but no part number. Not near the car for a few days to verify that though.

                      Ara,

Mine's 22049, also an AO Smith Convertible. Looks like we are under a 100 apart, so we are on the same day or within a day. I figured mine came off the line on June 29, 67, and was delivered to Scranton, PA on July 15, 67, for my Navy room-mate.

Still looks pretty good after all these years.

Hoping to go to Kissimmee and see yours.

Let us know if you find a number on your hood brace and where. If so I'll take a closer look at mine.

                          Ara,
I am 21135 and also a L-79, sidepipes, Goodwood Green and a strange history (typo trim tag) with documentation. Maybe I can get to Florida and the three of us get together with our rare 67 small blocks!

Rick, that would be great. Your car is gorgeous. If Jerry brings his, that would be a great photo op. Regardless, find me at the show. Jerry, you too. Would be great to meet you guys in person.

                              Ara,

Wasn't thinking of driving out, that's a long trip for me from N. California. But was thinking of flying out and combining the trip with a family reunion.
I have a brother in Lecanto, Fla., anywhere near you ? Was also thinking of getting the other brother to fly down from LI, NY.

If I can make it, I'll look forward to meeting you, as well as finally meeting Rick after a number of years talking on the TDB.
