    1975 Gas Caps revisited

The forum has had a few threads on gas caps over the last year so I'm adding to that thread but with a fresh start. Picked up these at Carlisle this past weekend and after some cleanup, was pleased with my $2.00 find. I take it the GM# 556389 is a 75 cap per JLs last post. Here are photos. Not sure of the date code but perhaps someone with better perspective can diagnose.

This one is the three dollar cap...but not sure if its even a Corvette cap. the engraved # is 678 2548 with no date code.

My Parts Interchange Manual shows GM #556389 as a '77 cap.

        Re: 1975 Gas Caps revisited

        Hi Tom

The gas cap on Dolores' 75 (8000 mile car) has part number 747005 and a date code 0565 which translates to 56th day of 1975. It is a June,'75 car.

This all agrees with the '75 judging manual.

I can't read the date codes in your picture but the first 3 numbers are the Julian date followed by the last digit of the year.

          Tom

          Just checked Ebay.

          No surprise.

In my opinion, none of the 16 listed are correct to NCRS standards.

              Hey Don

I take it you mean the second photo in the first photo set. The numbers read 209 6 from what I can gather. Makes it an August 76 cap, probably installed on a late 76 or early 77 vehicle?

Can't add anything technical, but just wanted to ask if you enjoyed your snooze up on the top row of the grandstands (didn't have my camera with me)

Your date code of 2096 would seem to agree with Brian's post indicating it is a 1977 cap.

Yeah...it was nice! You should have come up and said hello. Just finished getting that $2.00 cap (the 2096), an order of fries, basking in a great find, a full stomach and needed it to settle in before I could make another round in the swap area.
