Side note to this topic. Stolen gas cap. Had a number of these stolen at Kissimmee and I believe at other NCRS meets.

      Re: 55 at Carlisle

Regarding the '55 at Carlisle - #609: First, thanks to the many that did stop by. We sincerely enjoyed the 100's of discussions, comments and stories related to early Corvettes.

For clarification - because we have been "on the fence" regarding the car, we were open to offers until end of day Friday (as I told everyone that asked). We did receive a number of serious offers, but ... not a number we were prepared to accept. At this point the amount is irrelevant. The car did NOT sell and we are quite happy to have it home in our garage. Thanks to those that did consider.

Regarding the color - since approximately Sept 1961, the car has been "Titian Red" - don't ask why - I don't know, but I do have the 1961 receipt for the paint. The car was and is - to anyone that was able to see it in person, without question originally copper. The more it rained at Carlisle this year, the more copper paint that was visible under the faded and abused titian red paint. Roy - at some point I sincerely hope you are able to see it for yourself since you are without question known as the "authority".

The story about the red seats is true. Also, as Roy describes, the after market dash plate was an option - $12 from a Calif company - we have both the original brochure and receipt from '59. We have tons of documentation on the car including pictures back to 1959 and every receipt including a notebook of facts, figures, compression tests, etc starting July 2nd, 1959.

The guy in the pic is Mr. JH, the 2nd owner of the car, who we purchased from in 2006. For anyone that saw the pic, you have to admit it was pretty cool.

Ultimately, we took the car to Carlisle not to sell, but to show and share some stories with others. For all of those memories I am thankful because we had an awesome time and sincerely enjoyed every discussion !

        Re: 55 at Carlisle

        Rob,

I spoke with you briefly regarding the car and took some pictures. I can attest to the copper paint underneath. I thought for sure that you would sell it to the fellow who kept coming back to you ("me again"). I don't know if you said it or he did but I agree that purchasing that car would be a "life changing" experience. I marveled at how perfect the stainless was. Thanks for bringing it out.

Welcome Rob, sounds like you had an interesting weekend. There is also some discussion on your car over at another forum in case you have any interest... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...a-no-sale.html

What would it take to get some of the original copies of the literature ? Also, is the car for sale ?. Thanks, Steven J.................

Charles - thanks again ... appreciate the comment -

In response to Steven Snyder, thanks for the heads up on the other forum . I don't usually go there.

In response to Steven Neal question - is it for sale? Considering the fluster on that other forum, maybe I better suggest that if there is interest in the car, we should have a live conversation. If you provide a telephone number, I would be happy to give you a call.

Funny I never ever saw or knew of another 55 copper color till mine made it in a few Magazines some years ago , same with the 57 I had cascade green that was on the cover of the restorer back in the 80"S.

Roy, Steven Snyder's Post had a Corvette Forum Website to click onto.
About the 9th item down on it showed a newly painted vette in restoration progress....Copper paint. Young Teen standing by it.
Another maroon 54-55 behind it. No info about it.

A friend of mine who does vettes was at Carlisle and said the 55 was
a decent looking car, body-wise and all.

There was a period picture inside this car that I thought was interesting. It showed this car next to another 55 with side windows. This car was without I recall. Here's another angle for you.....
