Hardtop color on dual colored 60

I've asked this before and received varying answers about what was the correct color for a hardtop on a red car with white coves? Most of the pictures I've seen show a white hardtop on the car. I recently purchased a red 1960 hardtop with the original headliner (red). I have the opportunity to have it painted white on the exterior without cost to me. (my paint guy owes me a favor). Is it personal perference?

The color was always the main body color. In your case , it would be correct red. ..............

      Valerie,

You might want to get a '58-60 judging manual if you are trying to correct items on your car. It can really help you in a lot of ways..........

I purchased my 59 from a gal who owned it from 1959 thru 2004, and put 230k miles on it. Red with white covers - base engine. As the prior posters indicated, the hardtop should match the main body color.

The original owner of my 59 painted the hardtop white to keep the interior cooler on hot days.

I personally like the look of the car better with a red hardtop. But I don't care enough to pay to have the hardtop painted red.

Ditto the rest. The hardtop color was always the body color except for C2 & C3 vinyl tops.

Yep body colour and hard top colour are the same. I have read lots of C1 books and see lots of different hardtop colours to the body they are incorrect. I think it's got to do with keeping the car cooler in the sun as russ pointed out. But they are incorrect. Stewy

Again, thank you all for your knowlegable responses to my question. Although I prefer the soft top look of white with white coves, I will maintain the red hardtop.
