Anyone familiar with "Mershons" corvettes? found a car I like today at Carlisle..

Was curious if anyone has delt with them, if they usually carry prett decent cars etc..

I found a car under his tent today at Carlisle that I really liked and talked to him about 30 min for.

if anyone could give me any info on them I would appreciate it.

also if anyone is up here and has some free time and knows 60's vettes very good I might get intrested enough to have someone help me look the car over. I know a little about them but probably not like most on here. I'm 25 and want buying a old vette to come out positive for me and not end up finding out I bought a busted up car.

this car is a 69 btw so if anyone has a 69 and is at carlisle and would be nice enough to spend say 15 min with me to look the car over right quick I would feel much better about getting serious with this car tomorrow.

Brandon, welcome to hobby. There are guys and gals in this organization whose knowledge about Corvettes will blow you away. You are smart to ask for someone to assist you in purchasing a Corvette. I inquired ONCE from Mershons about a 67 Corvette. He told me that it was an original Marlboro Maroon car, that all the "numbers matched" etc.. When I asked him to send me a pictured of the trim tag, he did and it showed the car to have been originally a Goodwood Green car. Such an obvious "mistake" it turned me off big time. I won't deal with them again.....Be careful, very careful. I mean that in general, and not solely regarding to Mershons. Obviously it depends on what type of car you are looking for, original motor, original color....or not = color change and non-original motor. But suffice to say, if you are looking for a real car with a real motor do your homework, have someone who knows the car look at it for you who is independent and has no stake in the deal...Good luck and have fun. ARA

I had a similar issue with looking at a 400hp '67 with A/C some years back at his store, "all original" "Matching numbers", etc, slid under to check the casting date and it was about 6 months after the car was buillt. 'Nuf Sed!

Yeah I know! I wish I could say I'll be going back to SC with this car but I just can't chance that kind of money.

I have already decided to ask him to let me put it on a near by lift if we talk price and get pretty close.

He kept saying the engine has probably never been out so he thought but the engine pad had paint over it and not just overspray, the intake manifold looked newly beaded, exhaust manifolds painted up etc etc..

I'm sitting there thinking YA OK.

Brandon, I just left Carlisle this afternoon for home.
I can't help you check it out, but boy did Mershons have some pretty Corvettes. I looked at those C3s myself.
Hopefully, you will hear from someone still there that can help you. Keep in mind, there were three of four NCRS chapters with booths. Good luck, Ridge.

            good point thanks!

here is a picture of the engine.

am I seeing things or do the exhaust manifolds look like repo's? shouldn't the exhaust manifolds have air holes for the smog pump? and since this cars smog equipment is good they should have plugs in them.

I don't see plugs so those aren't correct right? I just know our l36 68 has plugs there, we actually took the remains of the air tubes out of them ourself and plugged them.

what also bothers me is the write up says power brakes he even told me in person it has power brakes and I didn't think to even look but...looks to me by the pic it has manual brakes correct?

I live in Columbus, Ohio and have dealt with Mershons on a regular basis. It is where I take my car to get it serviced and worked on occasionally. I have always found the place to be upfront and honest with me. They don't carry "perfect" NCRS cars often, but then the cars are priced accordingly.

It would have holes in the manifolds. ALL '68's were equipped with AIR.

Must have the ULTRA RARE invisible power brake booster

So this 69 should also have the holes in the exhaust manifolds right?

I'm glad I passed the car up it mighta been decent but it was not enough car for him to be asking 40k

At the end of the day they are a business and they will try to get as much as they can on any car. They won't be forthcoming with it's problems so it's always up to you to check the car over with a magnifying glass. Don't ever get sucked in by the shinny presentation. Stewy

Brandon: I have had several dealings with Dan Mershon going back to the very early 90s. I have found him to be an honest man in a tough business and I would feel confortable dealing with him personally.
