    3947867 Hose For '69 3x2 L68 Tri Power???

Upper hose 3947867 is listed for the L71 Tri Power in the TIM&JG but the L68 is not mentioned. It shows the 3967433 for 427.
Paragon and a couple others shows the 3947867 for both L68 & L71 Tri Powers and the 3967433 for all later 427 power steering cars.
I have a late L68 w/o power steering and they sold me the 3947867 which looks and fits right.
The 3967433 has the extra curve to clear the alternator bracket with P/S and doesn't look right.
Anyone have any insight as to what is correct?
    Thanks!

Jamie, my guess is that the 3947866 is the one you should be using. My early 68 427/400 wp/s clears all the brackets with no problem. Your "867" looks close to the "866" and would fit mine with p/s. I'm sure, if your going to be judged, the "867" falls into the 69 spec's. I did some reasearch on the 1967 big block hoses and carry a totally different pn#. then ours.

Jack, the 866 is the lower hose. The 867 is the upper hose.

No scratch that 868 is the lower. What is 866 Jack? I don't see that listed.

Both the L-71 and L-68 used the GM #3947867 hose. For that matter, so did earlier L-36. Some sources seem to indicate that the 3947867 was used throughout the model year for L-71 and L-68. I kind of doubt it, though. I think the GM #3967433 was used for all 1969 427's (except L-88, of course) after some point in the model year. Just when that was, I do not know.

The reason for the significant change in configuration between the 3947867 and the 3967433 was not related to the p/s alternator bracket. It was related to providing clearance for the p/s alternator PULLEY. Even with the 3967433 the clearance between the p/s alternator pulley and the hose is pretty much "touch-and-go".

However, it is possible that the 3947867 hose was used later into the model year for non-power steeering-equipped big blocks of all RPO's (except L-88). This may have been done to use up on-hand stock or to fulfill contractual obligations from the supplier.

As a matter of fact, until a supercession occurred in the mid-1970's's, only one upper radiator hose was ever available in SERVICE for ALL 1969 Corvette big blocks (except L-88). That hose was the GM #3967433. The GM #3947867 was NEVER available from GM in SERVICE; it was a PRODUCTION-only piece used for a limited period of time. The mid-70's replacement hose, GM #331876 which was also the 73-74 LS-4 PRODUCTION and SERVICE hose, was very similar in configuration to the 3967433 except shorter and with an even sharper "U" shaped bend.

              Re: 3947867 Hose For '69 3x2 L68 Tri Power???

I have a 867 on my Oct 68 build L68 with P/S. Joe Lucia and I had a long conversation on this topic at the San Jose National. We concluded that the early 69 L68 came with the 867. 433 was used late in 69 thru 1972 on the 427 and 454 w/ P/S.

The only picture I have is the 433, which is wrong for my early car but good for the late (whenever that is). I have since changed it and it passed the sniff test at San Jose.

1968 big blocks (except L-88) used a completely different radiator than 1969. In particular and of special relevance here was the configuration of the upper radiator tube and the width of the core. The 1968 radiator used an upper tube with a sharp 90 degree bend; the 1969 used a curved tube. The 1968 radiator was also narrower than the 1969 which also had an effect on the configuration of the upper radiator hose.

Joe, where does the 3947866, which I believe is correct for my Jan 68 built 68 437/400 with p/s come into play?

The GM #3947866 was used for the upper radiator hose for later 1968 Corvette big blocks except L-88. It was not used for 1969.

I have a slightly off topic question. I noticed Michael Brown's engine picture has a smog pump with the built in pressure release valve. I also have an early built (Nov 4th, 1968) L68 with the same style smog pump but was informed only the L88's in 69 had this style off smog pump. Can anyone shed some light on this topic.

I would suggest that that is the wrong pump.
Though some say some early '69's still had it.
Reading earlier threads I think Joe Lucia would disagree.
It should be only correct for L88's and ZL1 in '69.
