The doors on my 55 are hard to open and close, and sometimes come open in flight. I've searched the archives for any information on adjusting them, but I couldm't find anything that would help. I haven't asked Roy for any help for almost a week, so I thought he might offer some advice like he did on the hood adjustment. Thanks.

Re: Adjusting the doors on a 55
Fenwick, had the same problem on my '55. First, I made sure my door gaps were as close as I could get them to correct. Then, I made sure the springs in my door catches were working and the parts moved freely. I then loosened the catches enough to move slightly and closed the door to get the "pin" on the door to line up the "pin" and the catch. I pushed the door closed until it almost latched and then tightened the screws on the catches. I then closed the door and saw if it latched by moving it. I just played with the adjustments until it closed easily and stayed latched. On my passenger door, I have to make sure the opener knob is pushed fully forward or the door will open, still have to tinker with the springs in the door latch mechanism to get that resolved.

Re: Adjusting the doors on a 55
1> It's usually the door hinge pins being worn allowing the door to hang down and move up & down. That's why you see some people lift the door as they close it.
2> The striker may need a spacer shim installed because the front door gap is to close or shims needed at the hinge area.
3> The body shims are not installed correct
4> The striker is tilted up or down to much.
5> Or the star wheel is worn or loose or the striker is worn .
It's just a matter of inspecting these areas and fiddling around .
Now and then I need to readjust and tighten the screws of my strikers because the shock of closing the doors (moves) them.- Top

Re: Adjusting the doors on a 55
Fenwick, my assumption was that all hinges, pins and other hardware was either new or in good condition. Roy is dead on in making sure all is in good working order first!- Top
