Carroll Shelby drives the former 1957 Sebring Corvette factory race car at Cumberland, Maryland. Car was sold to Eb Rose of Houston, Texas for $1.

Was this in '57, I assume? Did Thompson race in this race, also?

Joe, what's the "Black Widow" connection? In the passenger car world, that means an injected, 1957 150 sedan with special preparation for roundy-roundy racing.

Engines prepared and sent to Sebring for the four production body cars were a combination of EL and EK Corvette and Chevrolet blocks..with the EK blocks designated as the Black Widow normally used for the SEDCO built NASCAR entries...later to be known as Black Widows when Bill France Sr. ruled out the use of Fuel Injection.

After the AMA ban..Ed Cole sold Eb Rose of Houston, Texas the Bill Mitchell SR2 and two of the 57 Sebring production body cars.

Carroll Shelby drove the former Sebring Corvette for Eb Rose at a couple events while he was also driving for Maserati and Ferrari.
