Correct Filament tape for vacuum lines.

Does anybody know where I can order the correct filament tape used on the vacuum lines? It looks almost like standard modern threaded tape from a packing supply store but was curious if anybody knew of a "near correct" substitute resourse.

    Thanks

I think that the commonly available strapping tape that you describe is a perfect or near-perfect match for what was originally used. I don't think you need to make any more of a "treasure hunt" out of it than that.

Great, that's what I assumed but I didn't see anything from the local parts Vendors, so I didn't know if there was one product that was a closer match than another.

We're getting close when I'm asking these types of questions.

      Thanks

I have had a roll of it for many years it's still tacky , The tape had beed used for shipping packages. Just pay attention to the way it was wound around the vacuum fittings , there was a method.

i'm definately open to critique. Gotta re-do the top Headlight T-fitting. Sloppy.

            Hi John,
            Nice tape!!!
I let my roll sit outside in a baggie in the sun for a while so it 'yellowed' it's appearance a bit.
I would have expected to see just 1 pass over the filter from side to side. Are there some examples with 2 passes?
            Regards,
            Alan

Be sure to use a thin adhesive backing packing tape or else it will not wrap tightly. The good 3M stuff is too thick.

Is it just one pass on the Vacuum T's as well? I thought I remembered them crossed over when I removed them.

I'll adjust my wrap on the vacuum Pod.

                Thanks

Interesting pics! I'm just starting to redo my vacuum lines on my '72. Was this same tape/technique used for 72?

                  Thanks!

Nope. It faded away in late 1970 or early 1971 model years.

The use of the tape was discontinued in favor of the vacuum lines being glued in place with rubber cement. Not a bad idea, but quite permanent.

I'll see if I can get some pictures of the original tape tonight.

Thanks Terry! I'll have to practice a bit.

Remember these were assembled by hand. I doubt every one was the same, yet I am sure the employees developed the most "efficient" method.

Here are a couple PICS of known originals where the tape has never been removed. If you buy the tape today, it may be too wide, but, is easily cut to the correct width.

I nominate Mark as the official photographer for the 1968-1972 TIM&JG updates.

I forgot about the tape at the headlight actuators. Drat.
