    Cash For Clunkers

A buddy of mine called and said that he heard that the program had claimed a Corvette. I wonder where the ,now parts car , went to? Do they part them out or just crush them?

I "believe" the law states the radiator, AC and tires may be reused---all else in the crusher.

I really got lucky today!! The program is ending tonight and although my 67 427 was too old to qualify, the KIA dealer was nice enough to give me the $4500 credit anyway!!

That C4 put up a pretty good fight. It's a shame to see such intentional wastefulness.

That car had to worth more than 4500.00. It ran pretty good before the additive. Imagine what the car was worth parted out!!!

Why waste a perfectly good car bomb. Should have parked it right out side the Capital and hit the button when all the Congressmen are breaking for a nooner with their secretaries.

Disgusting. Who would trade even a C-4 in on a foreign car?

"The heat of the operating engine then dehydrates the solution leaving solid sodium silicate distributed throughout the engine's oiled surfaces and moving parts," says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration publication. "These solids quickly abrade the bearings causing the engine to seize while damaging the moving parts of the engine and coating all of the oil passages."

There are quite a few "ragged out" early C-4's out there. I have seen several that I would hate to know that I had $4,500.00 in. Sorta like the mid year big blocks in the mid '70's. You could buy all you wanted for $1,500-$2,500. The L/88 that I owned was sold for under $5,000.00 in the late '70's.

How's about a '66 425 hp coupe, 36.5 gallon tank, one of those noisey Muncies (M-22), and I found out after it was sold, J-56 brakes. All for $2,100.00. Oh, did I tell you that it had a new, just out of the box, GM '67 bolt on wheels. Hind sight is always 100% This was about 1973-1974

It's a useless program; has nothing to do with being green as it will take waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more natural resources to build a new car than to continue driving any corvette. It's all about keeping the economy rolling and trying to create a market that is simply not there anymore - a dead end

The real story is that CORvette was in for an oil change. They were supposed to kill a CHEvette.

When the owner came to get it, the service writer told him "It came in like that...we didn't do nuthin' wrong"

                          Only kidding...I hope

There's so many things wrong with this program it's hard to know where to start

Oh...and you can trade your good running but poor fuel economy Chevy, Ford or chrysler for a brand new, fuel efficient Prius built in another country. Whose economy is this program supposed to stimulae!!??

The minimum mileage for the trade-in is a combined 18 mpg. My '86 is rated at 17 city and 24 highway so combined is greater than 18. What C-4's would qualify at under 18 mpg combined?
