    C-2 chassis detailing

I am in the process of detailing my restored chassis . I was reading the instructions given to me along with the detailing kit , and decided to put myself up for possible ridicule by asking the following question:

Why were items such as the Brake Calipers, Steering boxes, and Spindles colored coded ? They were all the same, and used on every type of corvette, were they not ?

I understand the KISS method , but if the same part was used regardless of the HP or Engine type , what reason was there to color code it ?

Inquiring minds want to know !

IMHO I believe the markings were for quality/processing/torquing purposes and in some cases quick identification when parts were different depending on options... such as Idler arm for manual or power steering....

      Steve,

That was exactly my point . On items that were different depending on application, I can understand it. However the spindles and calipers and steering boxes, were all the same , so why bother? I also realized that some could be inspection marks. but inspection marks are usually just dabs or swipes . The spindles and calipers are quite a bit more than that.

The torquing idea is an interesting one. Can anybody confirm that ?
