    PPG mixing question

I'm painting a steering column with PPG Shop-Line JAU direct gloss acrylic urethane. The supplier sold me a matting agent to dull the gloss and a hardener (JH6670). I was told that this was all I needed.

I pulled up the technical data sheet online before mixing and I see that the mixing ratio includes a reducer. Do I need a reducer? Thanks.

If the technical data sheet said it did, you do

      Dick,

That's my problem with the way it's written. It's silent as to whether you do or do not need it. It only gives a mixing ratio. The matting agent is also in the mixing ratio. That isn't always needed either. I just don't know if it's okay to use this stuff without the reducer. I'd hate to wait until monday to call and ask since I'm ready to spray now.

I just tried it. The paint was very thin without reducer. It went on well. So far so good.

            Tom,

On the flattening agent can does it give and additional mixing instructions. I remember on some PPG urethane I used a few years ago the flattening agent is used in place of reducer.
