53-55 front emblem Trivia

When buying a repro front emblem some people don't realize the retainers are incorrect as seen here (using speed nuts) .The original support was a flat steel off-set retainer having logo III and held on with push on plates. (don't know the name)?. If you use the speed nuts many emblems show scratches in the front white area when looking at the emblem closely. Some judges use their mirror to see the correct retainer as shown (bottom pic).

Roy, is that a pin that goes through the top post holding the metal strap on the original emblem? Does a pin also go through the bottom post?

No that's not correct having a (pin) it was just a pic.I took from e-bay , to show the retainer . The retainer is so simple I don't know why it's not repro'ed because using the speed nut can damage the emblem and would be hard to install. But then the emblem is a repro here is the real deal.

I seem to remember using a popsycle stick way back when..to hold it in place. Worked like a charm.
