69 Rear Window Storage Tray Hardware

I am finishing the restoration on my 69 coupe and have a few questions on some details - one for now. Can someone describe the hardware used to attach the rear window storage tray to the brackets at the back of the storage area? My AIM shows shows all I should need are two bolts (can someone describe the bolt dimensions and finish?). The AIM also shows that the brackets should have weld nuts, but mine do not - and I have a hard time believing that these brackets are not original, but with this car nothing surprises me.

    Thanks for the help.

    Craig,

I'd have to check my notes but the hinge bolts should be just like the wiper door hinge bolts. They are shouldered.

Thanks Rich. Was a white plastic bushing also employed?

        Craig,

I just checked the AIM and it does not call for a bushing like the wiper door.
I also checked the pt# of the strage hinge bolt against the wiper door hinge bolt and it is different. So the shoulder may be longer or it does not have the nylock in the threads like the wiper door bolt. In my bolt stashes I have at least 4-5 diffetent shouldered bolts. 1 would be for the 68-E-69 coffee can wiper door actuator, the next for the wiper door hinge to door, then wiper door hinge to link bolt (thats the bolt that attaches the arm to the actuator thats covered by the rubber boot) then the rear storage tray bolt.

All these bolts have a flat 3/8" hex head and are 10-24 thread. The only difference is the lenght on the shoulder. all are balck phosphate.

So start digging in your left over bolts to see what you can come up with.

Craig I forgot to mention the brackets with the weld nuts are the ones bolted to the rear bulkhead of the interior. The brackets attached to the storage door will just have a round hole for the shouldered bolt to seat on.

            Craig,

I have a 10/04/68 build date and I have brackets WITHOUT weld nuts. I think if you look at the revisions in the AIM the bracket changed during the production year. I can't say with authority but I believe early 69 brackets did not have weld nuts. I have seen some of the brackets rivited and some screwed and still others with screws and rivits. Mine are different on each side and I believe them to be original.

The location is a bitch to get to. I don't know what is correct for my car but I used a 1/4-inch shoulder bolt with a bushing like the wiper door. To ease the installation I used a jam nut configuration. You could use a self locking nut but it will take a while to tighten a quarter flat at a time.

              Craig-
Just wondering how you made out on this probelem you encountered with the window tray mounting (and what you may have discovered). I also would be VERY surprised if the mounting plates rivited to your car were not original to your car (I think I may remember seeing your car once or twice). I see you also had some problems with your steering column, did you get those worked out. I gotta think your getting antsy to hot lap it, if you have not already. Maybe your saving your debut for the National Convention in Novi in 2011 (just kidding). I would LOVE to see it sometime (I think we may be local to each other).
