BB Ing. Shielding '65-'66-'67

How can I tell the difference between the '65 396 and the '66-'67 427 (4 bbl) ing. shielding? My book has each year listed as being different.

Just a quick general explanation. 65 has a complete enclose door opening, looks like a little house. 66 has a long front skirt, 67 has a short front skirt.

My recollection is there was an early vs. late version of the BB distributor shield in 1965 and Noland Adams' book provides side by side drawings showing the difference in the shape of the 'dog house' for access to the ignition point adjust window...

Dave -- here's a 2nd design 1965 L78 shield. Has the larger keyhole opening for points adjust (except there aren't any, as they were all T.I.). As Jack H. mentions, a good source is Noland's Vol 2, U69 sections for all 3 years. Caution: some of the GM drawings are viewed from the backside, so you have to use your mental mirror to identify the curves and cuts as they would appear when viewed from the front.
