Stingray car cover - which one ?

Anyone have a recommendation for a good custom fitting cover for my 65 ? Ones I ordered from Paragon and others have been poor fitting and don't even have a hole in them for the antenna !

I found one company that had a good one but they wanted $300 !

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Mark:
I have a '65 convertible and bought a new car cover just over one year ago. I live in South Florida and, although the car is kept in the garage, I still keep it covered. On the weekends, I take the car out of the garage and cover it in the carport between cruises to protect it from windborne debris and rain. The car cover that I decided to buy is a MaxTech fitted cover with left-side pocket for the driver's door mirror. It fits on the car like a glove, and is multi-layered with a "breathable" material. It is not the right cover for a car which is kept outside exclusively as the material is somewhat water-resistant, but definitely not waterproof. It was purchased from one of the usual vendors for about $ 95.00 including shipping. The only thing it is missing is the hole for the antenna, but I made my own. Once you have the cover on the car, you can use a pen to mark the spot where the antenna wants to penetrate. Carefully cut a small hole for the antenna. Then, using Krazy Glue (works great on fabric), I glued one thin "toilet seat hinge bolt washer" (8 in a package at Ace Hardware for under $ 2.00) on each side of the car cover. Presto! Now I have a perfect hole for the antenna, and the washers protect the fabric from ripping over time. It's a very good, fitted car cover for the money as long as your car doesn't get direct rain or snow. If it wears out faster than the expensive covers (which I doubt), I don't worry because I can buy three MaxTech covers for the price of one expensive cover .

    Good luck,
    Roger (50141)

      Mark -

I like the California Car Cover (www.calcarcover.com) "Plushweave" cover - gray cotton outside, plush flannel inside, custom-fitted (not an outdoor cover). You'll always have to make your own antenna hole (unscrew the antenna, install cover, mark location, cut hole, install reinforcements that come with the cover).

I have two California Car Covers, both with the flannel lining. They have to be about ten years old now and still great condition. I also have a flannel lined one for the '57 I got from MG Mitten (remember Marion? --no longer in business) and it is in great condition, also. I bought it in 1964.

I bought one years back at a Bloomington Gold show. It's heavy maroon flannel and has the mirror pocket as well as a reinforced antenna hole. Believe it ran about $125.00 back in about 2001. It fits so well and is extra long on the sides such that I can hook the elastc band bottom onto my hubcap spinners (63). It is so nice that I cover it up as well with an older fitted vinyl cover just to keep it from getting dusty in the garage. I like the extra padded thickness which affords a little more protection on the side from my Impala. It takes a little more time to take off two covers, but then it is just part of my ritual now which includes a sort of pre-flight (no pun intended). If you're going to Pa. for the show, you might want to look around for a bargain. I like seeing something before I buy.

I also have California car covers for my 63 and 67. I think we all have good taste on this D/B.

If you ever decide to wash the cover use Woolite and a commercial (extra capicity) washer in a laundrymat.
