I think that the product may be old and settled out seperately. If the cap is put on and mixed by squeezing the tube in various ways this may mix the product. If you don't return tube, try cutting it open to see if black is indeed in there somewhere.

I had the same problem with 3M black. Apparently the "black" settles to the bottom and kneading it won't help, especially if you stored the tube with the tip up. I turned the tube upside down and let it stand like that for a few days and VOILA!, it came out black.You wouldn't think that an adhesive would separate but it does.

Kind of looks like a yellower contact adhesive to me. If you clean the area around the strip it should look ok. Stewy

bought some 3m black today..pulled it off with mineral spirits and it took the paint off but hey the new 3m black went on where the paint was off and i now have a neat job..

looks like it turned out right the 1st time now! whew..was scared for a few

my experience with 3-m w/s adhesive: in the 70's thru 90's, their products worked super. about 5-10 years ago, their product either was too dry on squeezing out the product or dried too fast to adhere to the body and weaterstrip. if the 3-m tube had been opened and used previously, forget any semblence of adhesion--just throw the tube in the dumpster. even fresh tubes recently have been inadequate. i got a couple tube of Kimball Midwest weatherstrip adhesive a year or so ago and it works as well as the 3-m products available 30 years ago. ????is 3-m also importing from the orientals????. mike

I always looked for 3M products when buying bits and pieces. It was always top shelf products more for the commercial market, but the last few years there product is not be as special as it used to be. Kind of competing with Selley's and the cheaper brands ? Stewy

You know even this 3M black I used, when I pull back the weather stripping some it looks kinda dark yellowish.

Coming out of the tube it looked black though, I did knead it very good before starting.
