National Judging Time Requirements

I plan on entering my 67 for Judging at the National Convention in 2010 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The last judging event I entered the car in was at the Lowe's Regional in April 2007. It Top Flighted at that event.

Does this meet the time requirement since "last judging" as described in the manual or do I need to enter a judging event before the 2010 National event as it will be 3 yrs and 4 months actual time lapse..... ?

The "last three calendar years" relative to 2010 would be 2009, 2008 and 2007, so Stephen should qualify. What about cars that get a 3rd flight or better early in 2010; would they be eligible for 2010 judging?

This is still not clear to me.

Depending on how you classify 3 calendar years does the manual mean:

2010, 2009, 2008

OR:

2009, 2008, 2007

I just want to be absolutely sure that "I don't shoot myself in the foot" because I didn't clarify this point in advance.

when in doubt contact the National Judging Chairman since that's who will accept or reject your Judging application request for the Convention. Gary....

As suggested, I contacted the judging chair, Roy Sinor. I'm good to go!!!

Steve,

Short answer is your Jan 07 regional is good for 2010 National with respect to three year envelope. The rule says within the award year or three preceding calendar years. That tells me that 09, 08 and 07 calendar years count event though technically it is outside three years it is not outside three calendar years.

It appears that Roy's paraphrasing of the rule and the rule as quoted by Steve are a little different. Roy's ruling is a common sense interpretation of the rule and leads to the desired result. The rule itself should be rewritten in line with Roy's interpretation to remove any ambiguity for future situations. By the way, the writing of rules, standards, laws, etc., is not an easy task. The authors may have a clear idea of what they intend, but it is not until a final product is read by others that the clarity of the authors' writing is tested. The real problem comes in getting revisions passed to clear up any mistakes. Let's hope that NCRS doesn't take ten years to fix this one.
