I faced the same problem Chris has with the replacing of an incorrect master cylinder. I bought one from Muskegon Brake a few years back and they also provided a cap which appeared to be original. I had the cap re-plated and was wondering what you thought of its accuracy. Not the best photo but I am willing to take it off to provide a better photo, if needed.

    Hi Rick:

That sure looks like the "real deal" to me. It's also in excellent condition (no rust pits). It is very hard to find an original in such nice condition.

      Joe,
Thanks for the confirmation and Jerry too!! Yea, it is in great shape and as I stated, I had the wrong master cylinder on the car and bought a correct replacement from Muskegon Brake and they sent the cap too. I had it replated.
      Regards,
      Rick

        Hi Rick
What you have is an original 67 68 mc cap. The letters are stamped deeper than some repops. I also see your C cap, the side vent holes are stamped inward deeper than repops. Also is the width near the vent holes are flatter and squarer in length. I will post a pic of the repop vs the original. Also note in the repop the W is thinner and taller vs the W in original is wider. Some one mentioned about the D. Yes the D in the original has a deeper wider D or a fatter belly Vs the short D in the repop.
I just judged a 67 at Leavenworth and he had an original replated cap which I was impressed and no deduct.
        Thanks, Grant

          Hi Jack
I just got back from Judging in Leavenworth Wa. Had a great time and now I have to plan a NCRS Chapter event in BC. in 2010

Anyways here is some pics of an original 67/68 replated original vs Shiney repop

          1. W and D are wider vs the repop taller and thinner
          2. Vent holes which maybe vent holes are stamped indented closed. (69 to 73's or 69 to 71's were stamped opened vent as you will see in the picture the 67/68 repop has the 69 configuration.
I don' know the proper explaination of the vent holes...maybe Joe can explain it better.
But as you can see in the 67 repop it has the opened vent hole and the original doesn't have the holes. Just to confuse the 69 and later owners. Some MC caps had 4 vent holes and some had on 2 so what is what? Another item to discuss about.
          3. If you look in the picture the original stamping configuration just above the indented area, the top say we call it bump is more defined being it wider and more uniform vs the repop is off set and narrower.
          Hope this helps.

          Thanks, grant
