Re: '64 Stolen at Woodward Dream Cruise

My understanding is that a stolen car that is suspected of containing an electronic reporting device will be parked in an unobtrusive public location for a few days before the thieves move it to their own quarters. If the car is "recovered" during those few days -- no harm, no foul.

Now days construction equipment is also protected by homing devices.

So Terry, are you recommending the use of such device? I still have over a week to cancel.
I did not think that the device installed would be so apparent to a judge.
      Does anyone have one placed?

Should a person intending to use LoJack first check with their local law enforcement agencies to determine to what extent they use the LoJack locator system? Thought I read something like that on the TDB sometime ago. I guess I am not sure who does the tracking, local authorities or LoJack.
        Best regards,

I offer no recommendation. I don't want the liability. All I will offer is my best wishes.

Local law enforcement does the tracking once they are notified of the theft of the car.

I think you may have misunderstood me. I DO NOT think that the LoJack will be apparent to a judge. In fact, the intent of any LoJack installation is that the device be as concealed as possible, not from the perspective of judging, of course, but from the perspective of making its presence unknown to car thieves. I doubt that any judge will ever know it's there. However, that does not mean that whatever modifications an installer decides to make to the car for the LoJack installation will be acceptable to you. That's what you need to get straight on BEFORE the installation is done.

A Local had his big block stolen with a Tilt bed wrecker. It was in the parking lot of a movie theater, Witness said the truck backed up hooked the cable and slid it up the ramp with the parking brake on. Tilt bed was found but no Corvette. I got this story from my FBI friend. My 67 is in my sight or I drive something else. Dale

All little jokes aside, I sometimes take my 67 to a car gathering and you can bet from here on it never leaves either my or my wifes sight. We are living in strange times now..

I owned a 93 Cobra with 32,000 miles on it. My son borrowed it one day and we had a long talk about security and how he would come to a painful end if anything happened to the car. He installed the PedaLoc (locked the brake and clutch pedals together, sandwiched in between the garage and his truck (garage was converted so he couldn't use it) and locked everything down. Cops woke him up THAT NIGHT to ask him why his truck was in the middle of the street. Cobra was gone and was recovered four days later stripped to the bone. (Sound of puking)

Dale several years ago a very nice C2 BB was stolen in your part of the country. Don't remember who long it was stolen but it was later discovered pretty much intact and undamaged in a very isolated unhabited area. Read about this in one of the Corvette mags and had pictures of the C2.

I attended/participated in the caravan grand opening of Corvette Museum and was lucky to have my 68 Corvette represent the 68 model year and got to park front and center at the museum. Felt very safe leaving the car all day with the top down with the parking spot.
Participated in the Corvette caravan again in 1999 to the museum and parked in a field. I was sure glad I was able to drive it home. I have not heard of any Corvettes stolen attending the functions at the Corvette Musuem.

Jim, I did not get all the facts, as I was off working a drag race. But I took his warning very seriously. He has 2 thunderbirds(55and 57). The first thing he did after retiring was get a consealed weapons permit. He said he felt naked after packing for so long. Dale

No problem I assumed it was a friend of yours. Just curious about how the insurance companies handle this...You never know how good your insurance is till you have a claim

Valeria, I have read in a muscle car magazine of a long write up on a couple of alarm companies that sell portable units similar to lojack, but they can be taken easily from car to car. I will look for the info and let you know if I find it. It is essentially a GPS unit that is tied into a tracking satellite. I was blown away with it's funcionality. I am definately going to have to find the article as I would like one for my cars. From memory, you have to hard wire a sending unit that you can hide anywire to power it. Then the transmitter was the size of a fat wallet (one that does NOT resemble mine) and you can hide it anywhere in the car. You many want to look into it. Good luck....and f I find the info I will be happy to post it. Regards. ARA
